greygoose, this is a definite link for use by us for distributing to Endos and GPs if we have problems getting a proper diagnosis. Excellent.

Yes, I thought it was rather good. Well done, Mary!

This article needs to be posted in Pulse magazine for all doctors to read. They really must stop shutting their minds to new information. Not that a lot of this is new to us! A really good find GG.

No credit to me, it just popped into my mail box today. :)

Maybe we should put the article in Pulse. What consternation do you think it would cause :)

I was fairly recently diagnosed with 'globus hystericus' after complaining over the period of a few years that I feel as though I have a lump in my throat and having problems swallowing things & serious choking fits when it feels like something kind of catches on it (whatever it is!) ..... that particular GP prescribed me serious tranquilizers.. I was too tired to argue and haven't bothered since. Never once have I even been asked to "open wide" while they take a look, let alone sent for a scan.

It's scandalous.

Great article btw, GreyGoose :)

Thank you, Emjaytee.

But, even if he had had a look, he wouldn't have seen anything if it was your thyroid.

Before I knew anything about thyroid, I went to see an ENT because I was having throat problems - persistant cough, sore throat, loss of voice, feeling of a lump in my throat and difficulty swallowing. All classic signs of hypo. This condescending twit stuck a tube up my nose - something I never want to experience again! - and down my throat, and concluded that there was absolutely nothing wrong with me! He didn't actually say 'all in your head', but he thought it so loud you could hear it! So, I went another 20+ years without a diagnosis. Sigh.

I knew they wouldn't see anything but it would've been nice if at least one of them showed enough interest or took me seriously enough to at least take a flippin' look. Along with all my other symptoms I'd been complaining of, it should've at least crossed one of their minds that maybe they were all connected somehow! Glad I didn't have anything shoved up my nose though! Ouch :(

When did doctors in general, become so damn lazy?

When blood tests were invented. I can't remember having a blood test until my third pregnancy in 1974. Until then, doctors took my symptoms into consideration.

I think one reason why they didn't even take a look is because they wouldn't know what they were looking at anyway! They're not used to real, live bodies - or even dead ones, these days. They do it all on the computer.

Keep fighting. I did have a palpable nodule that caused all sorts of problems but my only issues were located in my neck.

Nothing related per GP as I had no voice for four months, my vocal chords were eventually found to not close together - second consultant found that after a no problem diagnosis, sternohyoid muscle popped out at the front of my neck, couldn't breath properly, swallowing/ choking issues, salivary gland infection. But GP advised all in my head and wanted to send me to a rehabilitation doctor. Yesterday he admitted he was wrong in so many words. So keep getting checks done - they don't know everything!

An urgent hemi thyroidectomy later and I have other thyroid issues but my goodness my GP listened yesterday.

We'll see as I struggle to get my levels sorted and feel human again.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! It really is scandalous, isn't it!

Thank you GG. Never boring that's for sure.

I feel pretty bad right now not least because I had to have my two old ponies put down last night. But I will plug on. As another thread has it - this can't be it.

Ever thankful I found this place as people just don't 'get it' do they.

Oh, Nickinoo, I'm so sorry for your loss. That would make you feel bad. You're going to need time to grieve. Take care.

Hugs, Grey

Kim, you clicked on the wrong reply button. You should have clicked on the one Under the post by Nickinoo, not mine. She will not get any notification of your question unless you click on the right reply button. And I'm afraid I can't help you on that. So, try again. OK? :)
