So I had TSH of 1.4 but still felt awful so decided to up my Levothyroxine from 150mg daily to 150,g one day then 175mg, then 150mg then 175mg and so on and so on. I started this last week. Problem is I feel more tired now than I did before. I also have this awful twitching in my right hand in particular the first finger. Not sure if its linked or not. I suffer with anxiety too which I have had under control for a few months but since increasing the dose I seem to be getting really anxious again on waking. Probably just in my head but not sure if its linked. I suppose my question is do you think the increase was a bad idea?

Too much.....?
Hello Amh,
Without T4 results & ranges it is hard to advise.
The usual symptoms are hypo being slow, cold and foggy thinking. Hyper being fast, hot with palpitations but it is confusing because hypo & hyper symptoms can also be the same.
.It all depends how you feel and a 25mcg Levo on alternate days is quite a small & sensible increase. I have just increased my Levo by this amount.
If this were me, I would stick it out because a TSH of 1.4 could leave room for improvement and it might all settle in a few days.
You could try taking your pulse and temperature every am & pm to see if there is a steady incline or big jumps indicating you are hyper.
Good luck

Its so confusing isn't it. Whenever I do my BPM its always really low like 45BPM. Since I increased my meds its more like 58BPM. The doctors have never mentioned T4 results etc to me all I know is it is the part in my brain that tells my thyroid gland to produce the hormone that doesn't work rather than the thyroid gland itself. Sorry for being so vague. I was diagnosed in 2008 and have just relied on the word of the Dr's as to dosage etc.
amh,
Your TSH stands for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone secreted by the pituitary gland in response to too little T4 &T3.
T4 & T3 are thyroid hormones and the best way to interpret a problem is to have all three tested. However doctors and even endos don't always do this. Members who continue to feel unwell under a doctors guidance sometimes have their own private blood tests conducted.
Ask your doctor to check Vit D, Vit B12, ferritin and folate as deficiencies in these are common in people with thyroid issues. A deficiency could account for some of your symptoms.
I blame everything on my thyroid but it really isn't always to blame.

Amh6971, it takes 7-10 days for the increased dose to be absorbed before it starts working so the twitching and increased anxiety may not be related to the dose increase. If you can put up with it for a few more days symptoms may improve. If not, go back to 150mcg. It's not a bad idea to see whether dose adjustments improve symptoms but if it doesn't work it is sensible to revert to the previous dose.
Have you had ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate checked? Deficiency/low levels are common in hypothyroid patients and can cause fatigue and other symptoms similar to hypothyroid symptoms.
I have never been checked for vitamin D or folate but when I was pregnant the midwife said I have a B12 deficiency which I get jabs every three months for. I may ask the Dr's about the other tests.
Hi!
One week after I first started to take Levothyroxine I had the worse 2 or 3 days, I felt the most tired, had headaches etc, the dose was 25mcg.
It improved to pre-Levo days (which wasn't much of an improvement and then with each increase I felt a bit better after 3 or so weeks, I am now on 112mcg and feel almost normal, it takes time.
Good Luck!
