I am awaiting NDT to arrive having been on 100 micro grams levo for 17 years. I would really appreciate advice on how much to take. I recently reduced to 75 micro grams because of change in levels but Gp is thinking of putting me back on 100?

TSH Levels

DEC 2011 2.1 (0.27-4.2)

FEB 2013 1.4 """"""

JUN 2014 1.0 """"""

DEC 2013 0.61 """""""

APR 2014 0.46 """""""

DEC 2014 0.12 """""""

FEB 2015 .09 """"""

MAR 2015 2.9 """"""" (Changed meds to 75 micro grams)

JUL 2015 3.7 """"""""

T4 Levels

DEC 2014 18.4pmol/L (12.0-22.0)

JUL 2015 13pmol/L """"""""

On going health issues ie muscle, joint pain, fatigue, brain fog, high inflammation, recent leaky heart valve diagnosis, dry eyes and mouth etc etc

Like everyone on this site I would like to feel normal.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and would greatly appreciate any advice.

This is a conversion guide and as you were on 100mcg of levo 1 grain would be the equivalent. So you can switch straight over. Some people think that the effect of 1 gr is more like 75mcg but take time and judge the effect of the 1 grain. If you've been having additional symptoms it sounds as if you weren't on sufficient levo.

Read the advice above the chart.

Thanks for this particular link to a conversion chart Shaws.I have always queried the conversion to Armour as you know, as to me the mathematics didn't add up and I always believed that 1grain of Armour= 75 mcgs Levo.

However, having seen the note at the top of this chart about the higher bio activity of natural thyroid I can now understand why 1 grain is said to equal 100 mcgs.

It has certainly taken a long time for the penny to drop!!!!!!!.......thyroid symptom????

Swicheroo, You certainly need 100mcg, TSH has risen since you were reduced to 75mcg and musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and brain fog are almost certanly due to undermedication.

1 grain is equivalent to 75-100mcg Levothyroxine. You may need to increase dose by half a grain at 2 week intervals. Hold at 2 grains for 6-8 weeks and have a thyroid test, including FT3, before increasing further.
