Hi I have been taking my levo last thing at night around 9.30 just before I go to bed,

I was wondering if I should try taking either in the morning or earlier in the evening, I have read that it's best at night, I don't seem to get much sleep, I can drop off but awake on and off all night, then from 4am onwards wide awake.

Also I have a heavy ache left side of my chest and sometimes up my neck, did tell gp but he didn't seem bothered, does anyone else have this. Thanks Hayley.

Hi Hayley

There's no reason you cannot switch to early morning dosing as sometimes we have to try either a.m. or p.m. As your sleep is being disturbed (I found that happened to me as well) too I think you may be undermedicated.

Just begin taking your dose when you awake with a glass of water and wait about an hour before eating.

If you've not had a recent blood test make an appointment at the earliest and fast (you can drink water). Take levo after test. Get a print-out of the results with the ranges and post them if you have a query.

If you've not had your B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate tested ask the GP for these as we are usually deficient.

Some GPs think that once our TSH level is in the normal range, there's no need for more levo. In fact some of us feel much better when TSH is around 1 or below or suppressed. Many GPs don't appear to know about clinical symptoms of hypothyroidism and rely on the blood test rather than listen to the patient. Also these days they might prescribe too low a dose to remove our symptoms.

If you take Vitamin C (I use powdered and 1/4 teaspoon mixed with the water) with levo it helps to convert it to T3 which is the active hormone we need to feel well.

Regards

I had my levo increased last week from 100 to 125, my vitamins D was 20 of which gp said borderline just get over the counter vits, my B12 was 320 down from just over 400 last year. I have started vitamins, I think I will try changing to see if it makes a difference, not sure how as I took my levo at 9.30 last night. Do I take again this morning?

Thank you for replying.

I'm looking to switch my levo, I will skip tonight's dose and just take in the morning instead. Either that or half dose tonight & in the morning.

You can take it at night and then begin in the morning. Sorry I'm late in replying to you.

Your vitamin D should be D3 and B12 should be methylcobalamin and sublingual are best as they dissolve under the tongue and go directly into your bloodstream.
