Welcome to our forum Nirmala 53.

I am very sorry you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I am sure with the correct dose of hormones you will feel much better. Unfortunately, it may take a bit longer than we would like as we have to slowly build up our thyroid hormones until we feel much better.

Being hypothyroid affects our whole metabolism and that's why there are so many different clinical symptoms.

If you've just been recently tested, please request a copy of your blood test results with the ranges and post them (on a new question if you don't have them to hand) and members will respond.

I think it is most likely that you are not yet on an optimum dose of thyroid hormones and therefore you are still having or have recently developed other unpleasant symptoms.

What dose of hormones are you taking and I assume it is levothyroxine.

You should have a blood test every six weeks with an increase in medication until you are optimally medicated. A test for the thyroid gland should be as early as possible, fasting (you can drink water) and leave about 24 hours between the last dose of levo and the blood test. Take levo afterwards . Always get a print-out of your results for your own records and you can also post if you have a query. Also ask your doctor to test your Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate as we can be deficient.

Low body temperature is a symptom of hypothyroidism and this should improve when you get your thyroid medication level optimal.

I too have had white numb fingers - this is Raynauds phenomenon and is thought to be an autoimmune condition. This has improved markedly since I've improved my thyroid medication level. I used to get it every day and now only have it once in a while

Do you have your blood test results you can post here? It will help people to advise.

Have you been prescribed thyroxine?

Hello nirmala53,

Welcome to our forum and sorry to hear you are so cold.

Cold intolerance is classic sign of hypothyroidism and when optimally medicated should improve.

Meanwhile wear layers of warm cosy clothes, eat hot soups and foods....lots of ginger, pepper, cardamon, garlic, nutmeg.....I love nutmeg in hot milk.....and when in real trouble.... a hot bath, followed by hot water bottles and a big blanket...lol.

If you have recent thyroid hormone test results, post complete with ranges (numbers in brackets) and members will comment. Also any Vit/iron test results again with ranges.

You need to get low thyroid levels raised and all nutrients optimised before the really cold winter months start.

Keep warm,

Flower

One thing you need in abundance with I presume a dark skin is D3. The endo I have been seeing is From India and told me he has to supplement D3 as sun does not get through dark skin as easy as light skin.

We are seeing a return of rickets when children get insufficient sun.
