If you're a poor converter can you just skip the t4 med and take cytomel? Want to get to the bottom of the conversion thing but don't know why the t4 if can't use it. Anybody have any knowledge about this?

Yes and lots do on this forum.

Everyone's need for thyroid meds is different. Some take one option and others use a combination. I medicate on T4 & T3.

Hopefully others who medicate just on T3 will comment.

Are you self medicating? Do you have thyroid hormone blood test results, including T3 and ranges?

I'm seeing an endocrinologist but I am taking armour that I order online. I ordered t3 online and I should get it in the next 2 weeks. The last time and the first time I saw him - 3 months again- he said he would run a large panel of tests but he could already see from my March 2015 blood tests that I was having trouble converting and that I had autoimmune thyroiditis. I am going to ask him if I can have a copy of this panel of tests that they ran. I am also going to tell him about the t3 and see what he says. He can't write prescriptions for anything the veterans administration doesn't carry and he asked them for the armour. They refused his request. They have a couple of synthetic t4 only meds.

Hi, I went straight for T3 as decided that (just in case I have a conversion problem, which considering everything that's gone wrong with me over the last few years I will probably have that too!) if T3 is ultimately what my body needs, I might as well give it that in the first place - for me it's worked out really well x

Nicole, poor conversion can be overcome by adding some T3 to T4. The T3 will improve low FT3 and stimulate better T4 to T3 conversion. Poor conversion doesn't mean you aren't using T4, it's just not being used efficiently. T3 only will raise FT3 and suppress FT4.

Yes! I take T3 only and have done for about 18 months. As reallyfedup123 said, you have to increase the dose gradually.

Sometimes it doesn't help because whatever is causing the conversion problem, has not been addressed. Unfortunately it didn't work for me, but it might for you. Can you PM me if you found a reasonable price somewhere?

Thank you
