I use Tiromel but only for the last 6 weeks so early days. No effect on weight to date. Im sure someone will be along soon who has more experience with this brand of T3.

Did your doctor give it to you or did you buy it yourself thanks

I bought it myself but GP referred me to an endocrinologist who has just agreed to prescribe T3 but to use in conjuunction with T4

You could have a private Free T3 blood test and if you wish this is the link. Plus another link re TSH re weight gain which may interest you.

This sounds exactly like me!!

I've had my bloods tested as recommended following my post, I had to persist in asking for my t3, t4 to be tested!. My THS has come back at 1.7 but funnily enough my t3/t4 results are not back! 😖 I'm so fed up with all this now the GP and my Endocrinologist from the NHS just don't want to hear about my weight gain but it's really getting to me now it's been 2 years of this.

Can anyone recommend a private endocrinologist?

email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk who has a list of Endocrinologists. If you choose one, you can put up the name and ask for a private message to be sent of their experience.

How does the Doc know your T3 is in range if he hasn't tested it??!!!

thats bonkers 😕 I've only got about 8 weeks of T3 experience under my belt and I don't weigh myself but I can say my energy and concentration have vastly improved and I feel less bloated so my body shape is changing for better - I buy mine from abroad PM me if you want any details 😉

I don't think that T3 is necessarily an aid to weight loss or should be used solely as such, what is helpful is optimum medication which may be T4, T3 & T4 or NDT. I have found that if my medication is correct I can lose weight on the 5:2.

There is research out there which demonstrates that if you have polymorphs or mutations in specific genes you can have normal TSH, T4, T3 and still be hypothyroid in various tissues. You can also have adequate T4/TSH and not have optimal T3, which is the bioavailable form that your body actually uses. This is also due to genetic factors. There are many biological processes that can be working improperly and give you hypothyroidism in various body systems. Doctors are ignorant.
