Hi Inpeko
I'm sorry I cannot be helpful as I am hypothyroid. Members will respond when they read your post.
I have looked at a previous post and you say you aren't yet on any medication so I would see your GP to get something to help your fast heart-rate. I believe betablockers would relieve them. Ask for an emergency appointment as I don't think it's helpful to you to have to cope with such high heart-rate without help from GP. Phone the surgery and if he cannot see you today maybe he can give you a prescription.
I also hope he's referred you to an Endocrinologist. I used to have severe palpitations so I know how unpleasant fast heartbeats can be.
I'm not taking any anti thyroid medication but I have been given beta blockers . I don't understand this .
I wonder if your GP knows very much about treating people who are hyperthyroid. It doesn't seem right to me just to give you beta-bs without looking into the matter further.
If you can get a print-out from the surgery of your latest blood test results and post on a new question, with the ranges (the figures in brackets) so that you will get more responses. Head it 'Hyperthyroid - suffering badly' We are entitled to our blood test results. Maybe if you phone the receptionist will give them to you. She may want to check with GP first. You can also leave a message with her for the GP that your palpitations aren't resolving.
Inpeko, the beta blockers will reduce rapid heart rate. Ask for your results and post them in a new question as Shaws suggests. Your GP can prescribe anti-thyroid drugs while you are waiting for referral to endocrinology and can also prescribe anti-anxiety drugs to help you while the anti-thyroid drugs kick in.
