Does anyone know if itching and a dry flaky rash are common side effects from taking levothyroxine please?

Itching
Danyell, sometimes people experience itching as a reaction to one or more of the fillers in Levothyroxine. Take an antihistamine an hour before your Levothyroxine dose. If the itching eases it is likely you are having an allergic reaction and should ask your pharmacist for an alternative make. Actavis and Mercury Pharma both do 50mcg and 100mcg and I think Mercury may do 25mcg. Wockhardt has less fillers than the others but is only available in 25mcg.
Thanks very much Clutter. I've noticed this morning and also a few weeks back that the rash appears to be on my around my waist and hips mainly! I dread the thought of going to my doctors surgery so thinking I need to go private!
Hi you could have developed eczema in which case you need to see the GP for scripts etc.

Danyell, I take levo and have noticed that my pharmacy dispensed Mercury Pharma last month....... I am itching as well - mainly on the neck. So I will be asking them to go back to Activas. Clutter always has good advice.......
Itching and rashes can happen due to Hashimotos and being under medicated.
Still itching like crazy, fingers crossed i get more empathy and knowledge from a private specialist this week! Thanks for your replies all
Yep. I was on a low dose of synthroid and then Eltroxin and the itching drove me nuts! Not only that, both medications caused me to wake up in the night drenched in sweat! I persuaded my doctor to switch me to NDT and I have had no problems with itching nor sweating since!
