hello all.

Doc ordered a celiac blood test . I have a little gluten during the week, so he told me I need to eat plenty ,then have blood test in a weeks time.

How long do you think I should eat gluten before i take the test.

Thanks

I think they normally say six weeks for a meaningful test.

If you join the gluten free guerillas on HU they will probably know more.

Thanks Ruthi. I thought a week was too quick for a meaningful result. I will look on HU.

Islandgirl, you need to eat 'normal' amounts of gluten for six weeks prior to a coeliac screen or the result is likely to be negative. 'Normal' would be minimum of 2 slices of bread daily.

Yes thought it was a bit too quick. Thankyou.

Be aware that a negative result doesn't mean that you are not coeliac or not sensitive to gluten. Gliadin in wheat can be just as much of a problem as gluten! Eating a little bit of gluten each week is not good if you want to be gluten free, it still affects the lining of the gut!

I understand from reading up on it, not sure gp will go any further if it's negative. I certainly have absorption problems and have loose bowels every day. Even the iron hasn't stopped it, so I must be quite sensitive. It's been a battle, but will have to persevere with cutting it out altogether, just sorry I have to eat it for next 6 weeks tho.

Thanks crimple
