Positive Antibodies meaning ???

Can anyone help me understand this please as I still have severe brain fog! Thank you so much for your help

My latest blood test results say: TSH Receptor Antibodies 8.5 . Results greater than <0.4 = positive.

Does that mean I have Hashimoto's or Graves?

I think the Carbimazole has kicked in as other results are still high but lower than they were in March.

TSH <0.01 (0.27-4.20 mlU/L)

Free Thyroxine 29.7 (10.0-23.0 poml/L)

Free Tri-iodothyrronine 10.2 (3.1-6.8 poml/L)

Thank you

Sorry to hear you are feeling so unwell. As you are only recently diagnosed it can take a while for your hormone levels to balance again, causing horrid symptoms.

If you have a high antibody count with hyperthyroidism, you have an auto immune disease called Graves.

I have Hashimotos which is a high antibody count with hypothyroidism.

Conventional medicine does not always recognise the implications of a high antibody count but fluctuating antibodies may cause both hyper and hypo symptoms and make you feel very unwell.

It is important to mange your auto immune disease to reduce the antibody count by eating a healthy nutrient dense diet. Sugar highs and lows encourage further attacks on unbalanced disrupted thyroid hormones. Some people find a gluten free diet to help.

Vitamin supplements need to be considered when testing has established what deficiencies you have.

I can't comment on your results as haven't a clue but am sure someone else will.

I hope you feel better soon.

Some TSH receptor antibodies stimulate the thyroid to produce and release thyroid hormone in excess - which is Graves.

However, other antibodies such as Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies and Thyroglobulin antibodies, are indicators of Hashimoto's.

It is quite common to have TPOab alongside Graves. Have you had TPOab or TGab tested?

All to many people with Graves also have,or later appear to have, Hashimoto's.
