Opposite of hair loss!??? Guys I thought I was at risk for losing hair??? Is it also normal to actually start growing facial hair as a young 32 year old woman???? I'm talking daily? It's embarrassing!

I'm sorry I don't know but have you been tested for PCOS?

It's other hormones which cause this and this is a link. I think you should see your doctor and get blood tests. It is called hirsutism and about 5 to 10% of women can get it

Poor you Funnygembunni,

Womans excessive facial hair is called hirsutism and can be a side effect of polycysticovarian syndrome (PCOS). Women with PCOS and other hormone conditions that cause unwanted hair growth may also have acne, problems with menstrual periods, trouble losing weight, and diabetes.

It would be wise and helpful to discuss this with your doctor.

The thyroid is linked to the sex hormones. Sadly although my head hair is getting thin I'm getting very hairy in areas I wouldn't have dreamed of!

Hi I started facial hair growth when I was 21 and was diagnosed hypo when I was 27. I am oestrogen dominant as have had endless fibroids, cysts, hysterectomy etc - i am now 47 - so i don't think it is male sex hormones just general imbalance. I would get a full panel of sex hormones if you can and do some more internet reserach. I wish I had known what I know now and had supplemented with bio identical progesterone cream (£14 a pot) as maybe then I would have not lost my fertility. I still have hair on my face, but I'm lucky my skin is very fair so my hairs are very fair. I have had electrolysis for it for years. It keeps it under control without encouraging more growth, which is hwat happens if you pluck! Good luck.

PCOS (if you have it) can be a symptom of hypothyroidism and can go away when it is properly treated.

Hirsutism, if it is sudden onset, is a symptom of Cushing's disease/syndrome. Cushing's also causes hypothyroidism, so if you suffer from that you may have a Cushing's problem. That said, you would have other symptoms, such as sudden weight gain, purple striation marks on your body (from sudden weight gain), high blood pressure, a red and/or moon face, plus the usual suspects of fatigue, depression etc.

You don't need to have all of these, but you would certainly expect to have two or three of the less general ones. If you have a look at Google images you can see lots of pics; that will let you know straight away if you might be suffering from it.

Not what you're looking for?
