ASHWAGANDHA
I tried it as tea with no effect whatsoever. It is included in my adrenal meds and I don't know how much is the Ashwagandha and how much is the other stuff being effective.
I take about 1tsp a day for my adrenals (in honey). Not a miracle, but definitely helpful.
We all take it in my family, two of us with Hashimoto's, and find it helps a lot with energy.
There was an article about it by an Ayurvedic practitioner I posted some time ago. You'll find the link to it here:
I've tried it in small doses. It does nothing for me at all except give me belly ache and I feel nauseous.
Personally I prefer Rhodiola Rosea, which seems to offer some of the same benefits.
One of the first things my herbalist said when I mentioned Hashimoto's was Ashwaganda and I take it with other herbs in a tincture she prescribed as a general hormonal treatment. I know the dosage she uses is higher than most tablets would give you and it takes a while to kick in but I think it does the job as my hormones seem a lot more stable despite the menopause (no period since January).
Would you mind telling me which Ashwaganda tincture you use samara please, I would prefer to take it in liquid form rather more tablets/capsules?
Thanks
I have been using it. I call it my happy pill! It works great for me, but I am laying off of it now since I am trying my new DNT. ASH....was my saving grace on Levothyroxine without any doubt. It also helped me when my feet got cold...I would take it and shortly thereafter bingo-my feet got warm. It also made me very happy as the Levo would bring me down.
I strongly recommend it if it agrees with you!
My supply of Ashwaganha powder arrived from 'iherb' by courier today. I have read a lot about it on the net which is controversial However, it seems that the overwhelming opinion is that it actually does support the thyroid and adrenals. Some opinion states that it should not be taken by those who are hyperthyroid, since it stimulates the thyroid to produce more hormone. There is also opinion out there that it should not be taken by those with auto-immune conditions. I have sub clinical Hashimotos, but I plan to put a teaspoon full in my smoothie every day. The recommended dose is 3-6 grams. I f you have adrenal fatigue, I recommend Vitamin B5...good for adrenals and insomnia. Since it is a water soluble vitamin, you can safely take it in high doses. I take two 500 mg tablets with food (one in the morning and one at night) every day.
