I just bought a new tee-shirt...

It's to do with saving badgers, and after an interview with my bank manager this afternoon, that's the mood I'm in! But I think it could well be adapted to suit thyroid : When ignorance becomes dogma, resistance becomes duty. Or : self-treating becomes survival. Or something like that. Any suggestions?

Your own suggestions are good. If you started producing t-shirts with your slogans on them, I'd buy one each!

lol Thank you, but no, I'm not going to do that. Just thought it would be fun to toss it around a bit. I need distraction!

The shirts i would make, would not be allowed to be seen in public.

?

faith63 profile image
faith63 in reply togreygoose

They would be full of anger directed at political goings on and doctors and lots of foul language.

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply tofaith63

Oh, I see. Well, I Don't see why that would mean they would not be allowed in public. There's so much gratuitous bad language and violence these days it make a change to see anger that has a point.

A shirt with a picture of an Endocrinologist with a knife through his Thyroid..

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply tofaith63

Or with a patient stabbing him in the thyroid?

That is better.

Oh dear - having grown up on a Dairy Farm - I did hear stories of badgers suckling cows - cows were hand milked in those days - and so TB passed into the milk. It could have been an Old Wives Tale or just the influence of a glass of sherry as the grown-ups chatted whilst playing cards..... :-)

I like your application of the slogan :-) Time for another career GG :-)

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toMarz

Ha! No thank you! Had too many of those already. lol

I think it has now been scientifically proved that badgers Don't pass TB to cows. How true it is that the suckle cows, I really Don't know, but why would the cows stand for that? I wouldn't! lol

Marz profile image
Marz in reply togreygoose

...they didn't they were probably lying down at the time - sleeping :-)

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toMarz

Ha ha! Hadn't thought of that. I had this vision of badgers standing on tiptoe to reach...

In that case, sounds like it might be possible, then. But not the TB bit.

GG, Save a thyroid patient. Shoot an endo! or Help a thyroid patient. Burn the protocols.

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toClutter

lol Like the first one best. Nice idea...

Clutter profile image
Clutter in reply togreygoose

GG, not very original, it's a play on the old 'Save a child, kill a social worker' badges.

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toClutter

Oh, I Don't know that. Must have been after my time. Just as true, though!

May be it's something that Thyroid UK/TPAUK should consider, making T shirts with a slogan on "to plight our cause" and sell them especially at their conferences, I would definitely buy one and more for friends. Or perhaps we could flood the NHS and tempt the GP's and Endo's with a free T shirt for a prescription of NDT.

Play them at their own game! Bribery and corruption! Like it!

As the logo for the thyroid is a butterfly, how about "crushing a butterfly on the wheel of ignorance"?

Oh, and badgers do give TB to cattle, it has been proved many times. Badgers excrete TB spores in their urine in pasture. The cows eat the pasture, and get TB. Cows are tested often and those that show any reaction are shot. The farmer has no say in this, it is run by a Government department. TB is a growing problem, lets hope there is not a forum for people with TB in the near future.

Crushing a butterfly on a Wheel of ignorance??? Who are you? Vlad the Impaler??? lol Sounds awfully gory.

Well, all I know about badgers and TB is that the latest research says they Don't give it to cows. But I'm not a scientist so I'm not going to argue the point. It just seems a shame to wipe out a whole species when there are more effective ways of dealing with things. And I shall wear my teeshirt with pride! :)

doriThy in reply toserenfach

I thought that is what they are already doing, our little butterflies are being killed off slowly but surely. We should be looking towards a save our butterflies campaign, National Destruction of Thyroids (NDT)

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply todoriThy

Well, yes, but a picture of a butterfly being crushed is a bit much, Don't you think? You can take symbolism too far, I think.

But a 'save our butterflies' campaign is a very good idea. Now we just want someone to organise it!

It is a quote from Alexander Pope. There are many scientific papers that show Badgers pass on TB as they are "super excreters" and I have never met a farmer who wants to eradicate all badgers, just sick ones.

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toserenfach

Afraid I Don't know my Alexander Pope, but I agree with him there!

The references to badgers triggered some random neurons. This popped out :

HB, I think I might get more out of the clip if I have some hallucinogenics before watching it again :-D

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply toClutter

Ooh, interesting idea! The weird thing about this particular clip is that somebody with too much time on his/her hands has created a 10 hour version of it. I blame the government, the banks and Big Pharma, personally. ;)

Clutter profile image
Clutter in reply tohumanbean

HB, 10 Hours! :o Global warming must have something to do with it too :-D

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toClutter

Nah, it's the fluoride in the water, soy flour in the bread, and possible GMOs in everything!

Clutter profile image
Clutter in reply togreygoose

GG, if they're responsible for 10 hours of bouncing badgers, mushrooms and slithering snake they should be banned NOW!

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply toClutter

Totally agree! Even if they aren't responsible.

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply tohumanbean

Well, it's my thread, and I Don't consider it a waste of time. Thank you for posting, HB. :D
