Thanks very much Mary for that link. I have been saying repeatedly re someone I know but the husband doesn't believe me, neither do I think many doctors know or understand as so many members have a B12 level near the bottom of the range and, as we know, are deemed to be in the 'normal range' so "there's no need to bother".
..and when it is near the BOTTOM of the range - it is important to remember that only around 20% will be available to be utilised in the cells. There is both bound and unbound B12 in the serum test - which makes it just a guideline test - as so many seem to be Not sure if it is the bound or the unbound that reaches the cells I sometimes wonder if Docs are aware of this when looking at results.
I have lived for over 40 years without a Terminal Ileum - where B12 is eventually utilised - and not once was I informed that B12 could be a problem for me. I started injections around a year ago - and now realise the damage is done...but feeling stronger.
Lots of good people on the PAS forum who are very knowledgeable - should anyone need further advice.
I would also like to take this opportunity of posting the link below that also mentions the link between VitD and Alzheimers....
Thanks MaryF.
