Muscle weakness after tooth extraction. Thyroid or adrenal?

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I had a tooth extraction ( had three injections to numb me). Today I am feeling extremely tired and have muscle weakness in my arms and legs. Would this be a thyroid or adrenal thing? Thanks for any insight.

Best wishes

Anaesthesia depletes all of your B12. Are you taking it as a supplement ?

CarolineAnne, I doubt it is either. Having anaesthetic and a tooth extraction is a rude shock to the body. Be kind to yourself for a day or two and you should feel fine.

I had a tooth extraction just Before I wasdiagnosed with Graves. I was like you - onto my third lot of anaesthetic and I was still waiting for 'my lips to go numb' when I told my sweet little dentist to go ahead and do it because although I could still feel my lips I couldn't feel my teeth.

He seemed a bit doubtful but went ahead saying to 'let him know right away if I felt anything ' - as if he wouldn't be the first to know😊

The funny thing was, as soon as I got outhe door my lips went numb.

I was given an amazing after care leaflet which included things like resting, no hot drinks for a certain length of time, not eating certain things, getting lots of sleep and taking a large dose of Vitamin C.

The end result was I felt amazing, no pain - I kept waiting for pain that never came - and a very good recovery so get yourself some vitamin C. I took 1000mcg with zinc - I'm still taking it because my pharmacist recommended I take it along with the Carbimazole I was taking.

Like Clutter says, be very kind to yourself and rest - a lot.

CarolineAnne,

It might have been the injections that have made you feel bad today. I can only use one dental anaesthetic as otherwise I would be very, very unwell. This only happened when I became hypothyroid.

If you have to have another injection, ask the dentist to use an adrenaline free. I have to insist, even just as injection is poised to be injected I double-check and say "are you sure that's citanest-octapressin". I feel fine then when that's used.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I took vitamin C before and after to help me cope. Thanks for the advice re: Vitamin b12 as I had forgotten that. I have a spray so had some of that after reading your comment.

Funnily enough I have been waiting for the pain to come but have felt none. I can't believe it! The nurse told me to take pain relief just before the numbness wore off which I did. I haven't felt anything! Just the muscle weakness in my legs and arms. Although that has improved this evening.

Thanks again everyone :)
