1/2 grain is the equivalent. 50mcg of levo is a very small dose, so maybe that's why you're not feeling so good. Normal dose is between 100 and 200mcg.

Hi thanks for speedy reply , I think I'm overdosing I was only on 75 mcg of levothyroxine bloods said normal range 0.5 range 1-4 , but hair was falling out took supplement for it iron b12 nutri adrenal to sort all possibilities . Came to conclusions with joint pains exc levothyroxine didn't suit after nearly 2 year's I changed to thyroid s and have probably increased to much too fast I've gone up to 2 grains changed over in January started splitting 1 grain over 2 weeks then 1.5 grains to 2 . I'm hot and headaches not much change to energy but hair has started to grow back .it's a nightmare tryingto get it Wright xx

Joint pains might be caused by low vitamin D.

Yes I was on full range of vitamins and minerals but I know hypothyroidism sometimes we need quite high doses of certain ones so mabee I could have taken more . But the joint pains stopped as soon as I stopped levothyroxine and my swelling in my face and stomach went after around 3 weeks Xx

It sounds like you may have increased too fast. There's a good chance you will ultimately need around the 2-3 grain mark, but you need to build up to that more slowly than you've done already.

It's recommended when you start out to take half a grain a day for the first week. Then if you're ok with that, to raise to one grain a day for the second week. After that, depending on how you feel, you can raise by half a grain every fortnight until you reach 2 grains. Then it's worth holding at 2 grains for a while as it can take the body a while to catch up with the new status quo.

I think you may have gone approximately twice as fast as recommended! Don't panic - many do this, thinking that if some is good more must be better! But it doesn't work that way, unfortunately.

Cut back to one grain a day for a week, then if you're feeling in need of a raise after that, raise by half a grain and hold at one and a half grains for a fortnight at least. Then after that raise another half grain and so on.

It won't take long for the excess T3 to leave your system - it's likely to be that that's making you feel a little odd.

Thank you so much for your support and advice x it keeps us all fighting for the optimum doses and hopefully feeling normal and not nhs blood test within range normal 😉 x

You may have increased too quickly. It's easy to reduce back down slightly. Being too hot could mean you've overdone it slightly. Do you take a record of your pulse and temp several times a day so you have an idea how things are progressing.

You've been taking the equivalent of 200mcg approx.

Approximately 1 grain = 60 mcg. When I swapped over from levo (useless) to Armour I stopped the levo for 2 weeks as its a storage hormone and can stay in your system for 5 weeks!! I started on a low dose of Armour (25 mcg) and built up to my current dose of 2 grains (approx. 120 mcg) which I am sticking with as it seems great for me. Do what you think is best for yourself though.
