Hi, I'm after a bit of advice, two years ago I was told my thyroid was failing and that once it failed it would be underactive but I was showing signs of an overactive thyroid. Once your thyroid has started failing can it stop? I've been told my results are normal now but still show signs of overactive thyroid.

Do you have copies of your recent thyroid blood tests - with ranges. Do post them so someone can help. If you have Hashimotos - yes you can be both Hyper and Hypo until the thyroid completely falters....

Have you had anti-bodies checked ? Also B12 - Ferritin - Folate - Iron - VitD

I haven't had any tests recently because my doctor said that my results were normal but I'm showing signs of being overactive again now.

Never accept the word Normal - what is normal for one is not normal for you. Please keep track of your own results ....good advice from shaws.... Sometimes the Hypo and Hyper symptoms can overlap....

Ask the surgery for a print-out of your last tests for your thyroid gland and check to see if the ranges are also stated.

If it was a while ago ask the doctor for another due to your clinical symptoms. Ask for an antibody check at the same time. Also ask for Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate to be tested to as a deficiency can cause problems.

Have the blood test at the earliest and post your results, with the ranges for responses.
