the average user is a 52-year old woman

Interesting... just wondering how they can be so sure. It's a long time since I joined, but I don't recall giving any info about my age!

RA, I rarely give my true DoB on a forum. My age can be between 30-81 and I've skewed several polls on fora because of it :-D

A very common fallacy is to take the raw stats and invent a mythical Mr(s) Average - witness all the 2.4 kids comments. It would be perfectly possible for there not to be even one 52-year old woman member... Or for the most common (modal) gender/age to be 52-year old male.

We have a number of relatively old members - I am sure some are 80+. And some under 20. The 52 average might be a gigantic towering, or barely a ripple across all ages.

Let alone how you go from ages declared (honestly or not, my dear Clutter) to the actual members. That is, unless you place an arbitrary upper-age, members will get older every year. There is no mechanism for removing those who have ceased to exist.

Thanks Louise it was good to read but I don't think the statement below is true considering Thyroid UK has 22,467 members, Peripheral Neuropathy US has 4 members, and Diabetes India 40,435 Members.

Also I couldn't find where thyroid UK was mentioned

"" . . . . . Which are HealthUnlocked most popular communities?

It's very balanced, there isn't a single disease that predominates over the others. . . . .. ""

Hi FF - I didn't agree with the statement either! LOL! Although, to be fair, I think he was talking about activity rather than members...

I did say we were 'just' mentioned.......! ;)

Among the most active communities there are different types of cancer -in particular cancers more common in women-and the ones for wellbeing (sport, food) and endocrinology, which have thousands of followers.
