Interesting, but unfortunately (not for her of course) she seems to be one of those who do OK on Levo. But then again so do lots of people - for a time, until the lack of T3 messes up their adrenals and almost everything else in the system - so watch this space in 5 years' time or so!

Oh dear marram, I thought this article was very positive. Dr Black sounds like a switched on doctor who likes to diagnose people by how they feel and not test results and it's great that TUK got a mention.

I know some don't do well on levo but surely many folk do. Does levo actually mess up the adrenals and almost everything else in our systems with long-term use? That's a bit of a sweeping statement and may frighten some. Surely people who convert their levo to T3 well, and feel well, do not come into this category?

It is not uncommon for people to get on well with Levo for some time and then suddenly they start getting unwell.

This is very positive for Carol Decker, and I am delighted for her.

The biggest problem we have is that there is a myth propagated by Pharmaceutical companies, the RCP and the British Thyroid Foundation that Levo works for everyone, and that nothing else is needed. this article tends to support that myth.

I am not trying to frighten anyone, and to be quite honest I suspect that anyone who is searching for help on here has probably already realised that everything in the Levo garden is not quite as rosy as they would like us to think.

Good that there was a mention for TUK though.

But you seem to be saying that long term use of levo 'messes up the adrenals and almost everything else in our systems' . Thats a scary claim because many people come to this site looking for support when they start their thyroid journey and start taking levo.

Are you saying that all of us on levo are harming ourselves and will eventually become ill?

Whilst i understand the big pharma thing and the fact that some people will do better on t3 or ndt i really am surprised at what you are saying.

I also disagree that everyone searching for help on this site is here because they are not happy with levo. On the contrary i came here for information when i was diagnosed and started on levo and i pop in regularly to Keep up to date on thyroid issues. i have found the site extremely helpful and informative and i have taken much advice on board and have got well. But to put a dampner on people who are well on levo seems a shame.

Think she needs to get her VitD checked - and a possible bone scan after that ankle injury :-)

It's nice that levothyroxine works for her, but can the Daily Mail please give us some celebrities for whom it hasn't worked and how they are now on NDT, T3 or T3/T4? Surely, there must be some out there.

Lucky she had a doctor who believed her and didnt just tell her to go away and lose weight even though TSH is high. undiagnosed Joolz.

I too was encouraged, until I realised that Dr Black works out of the Thyroid Clinic in Harley Street, a private clinic and not NHS :-( so will NHS endos take note? Unlikely...
