Hashimotos…..?

I met with a dear friend yesterday who has had a lot of health problems since iv known her (20 yrs), this was a catchup having not seen her for a few years. She still has terrible problems Really bad and prolonged headaches, panic attacks, she had a hysterectomy as Dr thought this would help her headaches…. it didn't! She was told at one stage she was borderline under active, given no medication, then she has had a stage of being overactive and told she has antibodies, but has not been offered medication. She saw Dr Skinner years ago and he gave her Thyroxine but this made her headaches worse, so since then she suffers in silence with no help from anybody, I do not have Hashimotos myself bso Im not sure, does this song like she has Hashimotos and shouldn't she be on some form of treatment - maybe because she couldn't tolerate Thyroxine the Dr thinks she doesn't need it? Her las TSH was 2.8.

Any advise would be welcome xx

Hi dwsmith,

I have Hashimoto's and the worst symptom for me was the almost constant headaches. Levothyroxine did nothing to help, but since being on NDT my headaches have become slight and infrequent. I think your friend does need medication, but that she needs to find what suits her.

Thankyou Luckykat, are you on Nature Throid? I think you are right but she isn't getting any help from anybody, I think she started on the right track with Dr Skinner but then found the treatment didn't help, I think she didn't realise there could be an alternative treatment xx

Hi,

No, I'm on Armour. I tried Nature Throid when the price of Armour increased but it affected my eyes so I'm back on Armour. Unfortunately it really is a case of finding what suits each individual best.

Hi Londinium,

I take 1 grain and 1/2 grain tablets, with 1/4 grain twice a week. I ran out of the 1/4 grain first and didn't notice any difference between Armour and Nature Throid so purchased the larger tablets. In December I started the 1/2 grain Nature Throid, and added in the 1 grain a couple of weeks later as my Armour ran out.

It was when I was fully on Nature Throid that I began to feel a pressure behind my left eye and I had trouble shifting focus, say from the tv to something else in the room. It got worse and over Christmas I was finding it difficult to focus properly at all and found I was looking at things with my head bent down and then moving my eyes to look up - I hope this makes sense. If I lifted my head up straight to look directly at something I couldn't focus at all.

I had to wait for a new order of Armour to arrive, but since I've switched back my eyes have been improving as the Nature Throid leaves my system.

Big nuisance given the difference in price between the brands and I now have lots of tablets I don't want to take. Just goes to show that we all have to find what suits us individually.

Regards, Katy

... T3, I think is first short option for Hashimoto's . Armour 60 mg in t morning 1 hour before waking up [I mean on empty stomach at least 45 minutes before first tea/coffee and food] ... worked the best for me... for 9 yeas ... You can have normal THS, T3, T4 with Hashimoto's like I did, but if TPO are find = Hashimoto's . Taking Armour is slowing down Hashimoto's. Brings back oxygen to the body :).
