Is it time to start T3

Hi everyone,

I have to say being on Vitamin D has improved my well being, not had bad colds this year Raised result from 50 to 70 by taking these 5000units D3.

I also found that by reducing sugar intake I wasnt getting the anxiety reaction which meant I could increase the T4 and so my energy levels are better too.

I am still though experiencing scattered and speedy thinking and was wondering whether its now time to supplement with T3.

here are my last three test results: 15th August 2014 FT4 19.7 (12.0 - 22 )

TSH 3.3 (0.27-4.2)

FT3 3.6 (3.1-6.8)

taking T4 50mg on 5 days 75 on 2 days a week

26th September 2014 FT4 16.6 (12-22)

TSH 4.0 (0.27-4.2)

FT3 3.5 (3.1-6.8)

taking T4 50mg on 4 days 75 on 3 days a week

13th November 2014 FT4 17.5 (12-22)

TSH 6.4 (0.27-4.2)

FT3 3.7 (3.1-6.9)

There does seem to be a seasonal change with scores.

Can anyone advise please if you think I should try T3? I am still waiting for my recent results as I am now taking 50mg on 3 days and 75mg on 4 days.

Hi. It looks as if you are not on enough levo. I think there is a good case for increasing it before thinking about T3. Someone far more knowledgeable will come along soon.

It looks as if adding some T3 would be beneficial because you aren't converting very well. Your FT4 is ok, but your FT3 is much too low and your TSH is too high because of that.

However, it would be a good idea to get your vit D, vit B12, Folate, iron, ferritin tested because if any of these are low it will affect conversion. They all need to be at least mid-range, or even higher.

Thanks Greygoose. I seem to get worse cognitively when I increase my T4. My intuition tells me to start T3 now that I have given it a good chance at the T4 alone.

Well, that could be because you have nutritional deficiencies. Things like vits and mins play a big part in how we use the hormone we're giving our bodies. Even when taking T3, it's essential to have optimal vits and mins.
