What would everyone recommend for joint pain? I'm struggling a bit at the moment, especially in my knees.

Thanks

It has never been tested unfortunately

If your doctor won't test it, you could pay for your own test via a finger-prick test - it costs £28 :

I think quite a few people use this link.

betteryou.com/vitamin-d-tes... same test here but £25 that's where I get it from.

Good find! - I have the 3000iu boost spray as & when my elbow tells me!

It cost me £7, I test Vit D spring & autumn - so will test & top up too then! thanks J :D

SJaggs - I avoided carpal and cubital tunnel surgery after testing low then supplementing - took me 3 months 'tho.

[A simple sign is if your shins are painful when pressed/tapped, or rib-cage shortness of breath - its' not 'just' a vital mineral, doesn't 'just' prevent rickets/osteomalacia or help calcium absorption either - (also available as sunshine) traditional cod body/liver oil is good for joints too - vit D with associated nutrients.]

I struggle to get anything other than an annual review with my GP. I might bring it up at my appointment in a couple of weeks.

If your GP won't do it - mine wiuodnt and neither would my endo - try the place listed on the TUK website. You ring them, pay by phone - it was £25 first time I used them but it's gone up a bit - might be £28 now.

They will send you a testing pack. You get a little hole punch for your finger, touch four little circles onto the card you have been sent, return it to the hospital and you get your results by email within a few days.

I was supplementing before I did it and the person at the other end recommended just doing the test and seeing what happened rather than stopping supplementing for ages and trying to get the effect of the supplement out of my system.

That worked fine and I've just carried in supplementing. I use a vitamin D spray under my tongue every day - think it is 3000mcg but I'm not sure - might be 5000 ( my spray isn't handy) I've been tested since and I'm high but within the limits.

is vit d specifically linked to joints then or is it a general thyroid thing? Any supplement recommendations?

I'm only on levo. Don't think this is causing it though?

I started getting joint pain, not before I was diagnosed but as soon as I started taking levo. I am now on T3 but still have alot of the pain although not as much. Do you think this is caused by the drug as opposed to being thyroid deficient?

I'm having joint pains on the US T3, whereas all my joint pains cleared up on the UK. I had severe pain on Levo.

Vitamin D is a steroidal pre-hormone - also anti-inflammatory. The research of the last 10 years has propelled VitD to the forefront of PREVENTATIVE medicine - from Alzheimers to Cancer. Almost every one of the 30 trillion cells in the body have a receptor for VitD - so if you are only slightly low you will not have enough VitD to go around :-) Once into the cells the VitD can connect with the DNA. Medicine and the population have forgotten about the Cod Liver Oil we were given on the NHS after the war - I wonder why ? All those sun preps have destroyed our ability to absorb the suns rays which creates the VitD in our bodies. Also with 7 million people on statins in the UK alone - another problem is created. VitD can only be metabolised in the skin from the sun with cholesterol.... Big Pharma is usually behind many of the Sun Prep companies :-( I know - I worked for one. Yves St Laurent and Charles of the Ritz were once owned by Squibb Pharmaceuticals in New Jersey....

The above link has to be the BEST information for VitD - it will change the way you think about poorliness :-)

exeter.ac.uk/news/featuredn...

The above link is a short article about research done on VitD and Alzheimers....

So in answer to your question is it a thyroid thing - it is a whole body thing in my non-medical opinion :-)

Sorry information overload :-)
