HELP!!!

Hi Guys, I'm new to this...

Please advise... I've been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid for about the past 14 years. I've never really thought too much about it during this time but since returning to the UK 4 years ago I seem to be more affected by it. I've had it checked a couple of times since I've been back and all has come back normal but I've since managed to lose 4.5 stone and a friend of mine said I should go and get it checked again. I'm also finding that I am extremely tired and highly anxious.

Welcome to the forum,JoHep.

Are you prescribed Levothyroxine or other thyroid hormone replacement?

JoHep, if you haven't had a thyroid test in the last few months it would be as well to ask for one. Fatigue and anxiety can be symptoms of under and over medication so your Levothyroxine may need tweaking in either direction. Ask for a printout of your tests with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after your results) and post them in a new question and members will advise whether you are optimally medicated.

You might ask for ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate to be tested at the same time as low levels are common in hypothyroid patients and can cause fatigue.

Congratulations on the 4.5 stone weight loss. That's impressive.

Clutter is right in that a new blood test is best. Don't take levothyroxine before the blood test but afterwards. Leve around 24 hours between levo and blood test which should be as early as possible.

The fact that you were able to lose a lot of weight would seem to me that you are on an optimum dose of levothyroxine, but you may need some T3 (liothyronine the active thyroid hormone) added to a reduced levothyroxine to alleviate the symptoms you have now.

Thank you!!! I'll call the Dr in the morning. I think the last blood test I had was about a year ago :0. Also I always took my meds in the morning, not long before my blood tests... Thank you again x
