Thyroid Nodule Pain anyone?
Brihayes, I didn't have pain from my large nodule but it compressed my windpipe which made it difficult to swallow and breath, causing hoarseness.
Ask your doctor to examine your throat and neck. The thyroid gland or nodules may have become inflamed and that could cause pain or you may have a throat infection.
Thanks, Its defo my nodules, just had a thryroid scan - the pain I am sure is to do with a flare as my TgAb's are in the 1000's again
Brihayes, thyroid must have been under attack. That would explain the soreness. Have you tried going gluten-free? A lot of Hashi members say it is helpful in reducing flares and antibodies.
I had a singular nodule and, my word, it was painful. I spent a lot of my time tilting my head back to take the pressure off, and regularly took pain killers.
I had a hemi-thyroidectomy four weeks ago.
You're not going mad!!
Thanks clair70 I have so so many nodules and so painful - My antibodies are so high but it makes me feel ill all over like I have the flu?
I still have the body pain, and yes, it's like flu. My antibodies were over 600 before my op but I have to wait until february until they recheck that along with my thyroid function and t4.
Are your thyroid levels being monitored? Are your meds being adjusted?
Hi clair Im on T3 only cant take T4, so cant monitor levels
My nodules are in both lobes and all over the place (16 I think) and I keep going Hyper (but not hyper in energy very unwell) I assume its the auto immune response as my TgAb's are in the 1000's right now.
Its strange as but endo's dont associate high thyroid antibodies with extensive pain feel like death/fluey and so much inflammation everywhere - but it figures if its auto immune
Did you just have 1 large nodule? is that why they did a hemi-thyroidectomy , I have never heard of that and was not aware they did it for a nodule?
When I had my second FNA the lab results indicated abnormal cells. They removed the half with the nodule (2cm diameter) to properly check it malignancy.
I'm not sure endos are really bothered about antibodies, only it's effect on the thyroid. If (as in my case) only moderate changes in blood results are detected it seems to invoke an "I dont know what you're complaining about" attitude.
I knew my body pain was more than my thyroid and insisted on a rheumatology referral. After being discharged at first rheumatology appointment it's now been confirmed I have joint inflammation and am being invited back to discuss, have further blood tests, and fast tracked for physio (starting Monday)
If your pain is bad, don't give up, find a sympathetic GP and ask if they can check for other auto-immune disorders (or refer you to someone who specialises).
Good luck!
