Endo referral

Hi, seen my GP this morning and I was told that my referral to an NHS Endo in England was refused by the hospital there as it was out of area. I live in mid Wales. If anyone has seen a good endo in Cardiff or Newport, please could you let me know. Must be one that is NHS though. Please PM me, in line with posting regs. x

Pinkgirl, that's very disappointing. Email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk for a list of recommended endos in Wales.

Thanks Clutter for replying, will do that x

Yes - we've seen before that in Wales you can't choose who you see, and who you see has to be in Wales.

Thanks for reply. Yeah, am finding that. GP has now referred me to another Endo in my area - which is mid Wales. However, I know nothing about them and have looked their name up on internet to see if I could find out more, but nothing. GP gave me some names and asked who I wanted to be referred to, but didn't know any of them so went with one GP says is very good, who covers mid and south east Wales. Was under an Endo in Cardiff (only as previously lived there and case ongoing), though was not happy so wanted 2nd opinion. Louise Warvill, has kindly sent me a new list so am going through that also and there are possibilities on there I wish to discuss with doc, if I can be referred outside mid-Wales. It has to be an endo who is right for me and who works in a way that I would like. I have consultants at 2 different hospitals, for other conditions, however, I was referred to them when I lived in those areas, and as monitoring is on-going for the moment, when I moved to my current area, I ended up staying with the same consultants in other areas.

try and establish whether this Endocrinologist is actually a thyroid specialist, or is interested mainly in diabetes with a side in pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid and all the others. The diabetes specialists tend to know diddly about the others. :-(

Mmm, that's what I found with the endo I was not happy with. They specialised in diabetes and it didn't work for me. I need one that looks at thyroid, parathyroid (as mine is also underactive), and chronic fatigue as their main areas. I will check that out, thanks:-)
