I found this one very good as it halted my alopecia areata. Last time I lost all my hair.
I use any of the body shop products, they're all very gentle. (I'm allergic to some preservatives incl methylthialozoine) which makes it difficult to buy anything else!
Agree Nizarol very good, in between use I find THE DANCING DOLPHIN range of shampoos and conditioners excellent. Small cottage industry and use natural ingredients The MEADOWSWEET is my favourite!
Thanks a lot.
Hi I googled it and din't get a right website of any company. All I got were some old post from TUK and something similar on Amazon. Where do you get your shampoo from pls?
Thank you.
I like Avalon organics - you can get them in Waitrose and health food shops or online.
I make my own - basically a cold process soap recipe and use a cider vinegar rinse from time to time. There is no need for preservatives in cp soap (can use grapefruit seed extract if needed) and choice of fats and essential oils. My preferred recipe of the moment contains green tea and soap nuts liquid. (Can also use soap nuts as a basic shampoo.)
For the soap nuts or the cold process soap? My recipe is a trade secret but it is possible to get any number of good recipes from the internet. Some people will share the ingredients but not the quantities but others will publish their recipes. I use the internet for inspiration but do not copy recipes. One only has to substitute an infusion of green tea for some of the water in the recipe (ditto with soap nuts liquid), or any other infusion, be it rosemary or coffee. I then select the oils/fats which make the individual qualities of the bar of soap - different fats/oils have different properties; olive oil, coconut oil, calendula, rice bran, sunflower oil, etc.. These things do not have to be expensive. Then add whichever essential oils for your needs, say rosemary, peppermint, lavender, tea tree, whatever. It is very much a personal choice. As I said, you should be able to find complete recipes on the internet. The bars take 4-6 weeks to 'cure' before use, however, it is possible to 're-batch' soap, that is melt it down again after the first setting and this usually means that it can be used straight away.
If you are going to make cold process soap then do look up some books and take great care. Although to me it is just another form of cooking, you are dealing with caustic soda (lye) and this can burn or explode. If you follow the instructions you will be fine but lye, when added to water, heats up to over 200 and cannot come into contact with aluminium. This sounds terrible but if you are sensible and take precautions (wear gloves and goggles) you should be ok.
You can buy ready-made cold process soap shampoo bars. These should not contain any preservatives. Sodium Lactate is fine, but not Sodium Lauryl Sulfate; parabens are a no-no.
I am an aromatherapist, among other things, and started to get interested in making my own creams and soaps. I now only use my own soap and love experimenting with different combinations.
Soap nuts can be bought from Amazon and are the shell of a tree which contain saponin (soap). I use these for all my washing and for general cleaning. The liquid from boiling the shells can be used as a shampoo (stings the eyes) to which you can add essential oils. It is very simple and very cost-effective.
I hope this helps and that you 'discover' soap making and enjoy it.
Best wishes
Thank you very much for detailed explanation. I admire your experimental work, must be very enjoyable once you learn and get some experience. I don't have patience for it although as a child I imagined myself working in laboratory. I would gladly participate in process and get involved but don't have motivation, I am a real example of unmotivated hypothyroid. Wish you best luck with further production!
