Hi I also have a very itchy head I was told to use a cheap shampoo and conditioner every other wash I have tried this and even though my head still itches it is better I have been hypothyroid for 19 years.

I hope this helps

Candida can cause very itchy scalp and is fairly common for hypothyroids. I used to use head and shoulders which kept it under control but didn't treat the cause. I am now taking Caprylic acid for systemic candida and have not had ant problem with itch scalp for a while

I use head and shoulders itchy scalp shampoo and conditioner every other wash (and only wash every other day) and that really keeps the itching at bay. Wish I knew the answer to stopping the hair loss tho :-(

I too use this. It was the only one I tried that seemed to calm my scalp down. The good news is that my hair loss has stopped now too.

Mich: thanksfor the good news. I have lost sooo much hair since I* started showing symptoms of low thyroid. I am now taking levothyroxine and my doctor says my hair will stop falling out as soon as my body reaches a more balanced thyroid. but ny hair is now-- dry, brittle, was thick and long but my scalp shows baldness. I am horriied ed and wear caps and kerchieves all the time. Did your hair stop falling out after a certain period of using thyroxine? Please let me know I have some hope of living normally again. I can't bear looking at the bald spots and I see them increasing more each week. Tearfully Hana

I've always had extremely long very thick head of hair but my scalp became itchy occasionally scabby and my hair began to become brittle and fall out. For 7 years my doctor swabbed lesions prescribed anti fungal shampoo and steroid preparations but the itching would ease directly after application but be back within the same day. It has been an extreme source of physical and emotional distress. With Aspergers I've never been into fashion or self adornment so it isn't vanity but the only thing I've ever battled for is my hair ever since the only trip to a hairdresser led to me passing out and panic attack so like Samson hee hee my strength is tied up with my hair. However I have been treated for hypothyroidism for over 10 years and the scalp problem for over 7 years using over the counter preparations as well Neutrogena, head and shoulders, coal tar everything and anything I could find. Nothing worked for me because hair loss was a possible side effect for meteor in a diabetes med I was prescribed I refused to take it.

All sounding negative and hopeless I'm sorry but then last year I was watching QVC and there was this arrogant man saying his itchy scalp shampoo and conditioner worked every time he guaranteed it and there was a month to use it and return it if it did not work and I'd get my money back. His name was Philip Kingsley, the product was extortionately expensive but was on monthly payments they call easy pay and I was desperate. I bought the litre special offer and used it daily smells of apples and took two weeks using it every day but my scalp is perfect now with no reoccurrence yet and I only use it once a week now sometimes fortnightly using normal shampoo between.

I honestly can't say if using this product was the reason for finally overcoming the problem or the fifth prescription of betnovate or the refusal to use meteor in though the scalp problem started long before I took it, or age or reduction of levothyroxine or any other environmental influence but I THINK it seems to correspond to the improvement. The litre has lasted me nearly ten months so it turns out it isn't quite as expensive as I first thought if you spread it over time and it does smell lovely. My hair is still thin but seems to have improved in condition and doesn't seem to be falling out anymore (fingers crossed) its still about three feet long and uniformly covers my scalp so here's hoping and I wish you huge amounts of good luck

Apple Pectin shampoo and conditioner worked wonders for me when I lost my hair. My hair loss was such that I had to wear a wig and the shampoo helped a great deal. I got mine ordered through my salon, so it might be worth asking your hairdresser or look online at Amazon, etc.

Shampoos which include tea tree oil might help or a diluted apple cider vinegar rinse also.

When I went to my doctor with a scalp not only itching but weeping, she diagnosed eczema and prescribed Betnovate scalp application which I applied every night, and then progressed to Ketoconazole shampoo. I now only use them if my scalp gets itchy, and usually only the shampoo, followed by conditioner (BodyShop honey at the moment).

I have been using Philip Kingsley Itchy Scalp shampoo for 2 years, only one that doesn't make my scalp burn!

Good luck x

i was told A SHAmpoo with NO SULFATES OR SULFITES...MORE NATURAL....., also going to bed with coconut oil on hair wrapped up, then wash in the morning helps, when i get a itchy hot sensations i have went as far as putting a bag of frozen peas on my head and it helps....lol......it goes away....also very pricey but there s reports that a igrow red light helmet that you can buy from qvc.com with a money back guarantee for 6mths, helps with hair loss hence works for 50 percent of users.....at this point i would do just about anything......also castor oil will help regrow eyebrows....tried that ad that does help very quickly,

was told to add vit e and omega 3 because excessive dryness and inflammation can cause it or make it worse.

if cause my DHT , SAW PALMETTO AND EVENING PRIMEROSE OIL DAILY

LOW ESTROGEN, can be the cause and high dht or testosterone

low ferritin , low vit d,

low b12, and bad adrenals or poor digestion

or low thyroid.

ALL THIS IS SOOOO FRUSTRATING....mine has been a year journey so far, i loose all over the head and more on top, havent had round patches that some other girlfriends went to dermatologist for cortisone shots tht worked in 30 days

Hi chicken3 , I used to get a very itchy and flaky scalp (Hashimotos is full of fun isn't it?) and I've tried a lot of different shampoos/treatments to see what helps. At the moment the thing that works for me best is Neutrogena T Gel therapeutic shampoo. It doesn't smell particularly nice but I've found it works better for me than Head & Shoulders and although more expensive than 'normal' shampoo isn't too bad.

I've also previously used Aveda Scalp Benefits balancing shampoo which was excellent and smelled lovely but was hideously expensive. They also do a range for thinning hair but I've not tried it. I also use their scalp remedy dandruff solution which you spray onto wet hair and leave it. It's expensive but for me it's been totally worth it, it's helping a lot with itching.

Good luck and hope you find something that works for you.

i have a update...someone on here recommended using tar shampoo.....and I had tried everything else so I started using it....and it healed what ever was going on.....my scalp isn't pink anymore and I continue to use it...they are several makers on the market but it says tar shampoo in ingredient label.....I also did some raw egg mask that someone else said was healing for about 4 weeks once a week or so....so that may have helped...put it on your head for 30 min b4 shampoo and I put castor oil on my head with it.. b4 shampoo......I am shocked I already had tar shampoo his whole time but didn't use it regular.....I continue to take the supplements....now I just want the sparce areas for hair to come back.......I have one right in front on each side in bang areas so hair is thinner there....and I just got a not so great hair cut.....which doesn't help.....she cut shorter bangs and longer lengths that don't go together......hard to find a great style as you get older...

I used to hot itchy scalp, redness after shampooing especially no matter what I used and lots o hair falling out everything time I shampoo.....handfuls......it has slowed to a crawl....I have been using it for a month or two....so it took time but after 2 years shedding ...this is awesome...I pray it continues...

I have been on levothyroxine for about 4 or 5 years and I am now 20 and my hair is starting to really thin out. Can you put a link to my reply for the shampoo? Also the rest of the things you did to improve your hair loss in 2 months?

walmart.com/ip/DHS-Tar-Sham...

walmart.com/ip/SheaMoisture...

liquid coconut oil in the grocery section of walmart for hair mask and just mix a raw egg in it and leave on a hour..or put some black castor oil in it...

that stopped the itching and avoiding sulfate shampoos also...a dermatologist for my son told him to get 3 dandruff shampoos, one with zinc, one with tar, and onelike nizoral and rotate every time you wash your hair...his scalp never itched again..he said just as good as prescriptions....

walmart.com/search/?query=n...

have you checked your hormones, or ferritin iron levels...common especially in young people to have low iron.....are you taking multi vitamins, do you get out in the sun for vit d, have you checked your d3, b12, zinc, etc.....or maybe a good idea to invest in some good hair vitamins like val hair force from amazon...or viviscal but they are higher priced but over the counter...

I have to say hair has not stopped falling out butttttt I don't have the red hot scalp or itchiness anymore ever....but I waited along time b4 discovering the above....and waited a long time b4 getting active and going to one dr after another until someone listened...they think it was from dht from high stress , lack of sleep, lowish iron which I have to start back on, low stomach acid not absorbing nutrients so taking enzyme with meals, and I have tried not to resort to minoxidil but many find that the key...

trying pumpkin seed oil now and black seed oil...google those
