In a nutshell. Been suffering underactive thyroid symptoms forever but my blood tests are all normal ( doc says ) i managed to get a trial of levo for the last three months. First two months doc gave me 25 macragrams a day, this did nothing so for the last month I doubled the dose to 50, again still feel like a zombie, more so. Went docs today she and has told me I have to have more blood tests to see if my bloods have normalised before she'll prescibe me more. How can my blood normalise if she says its normal anyway? I don't know what to do, I just feel so lost.

It takes between 4 to 6 weeks for the thyroxine in the blood to normalise. That is when they retest.

I am learning about my condition and have started reading 'Stop the Thyroid Madness'. It is very interesting to read about natural thyroid and it seems a lot of people use Armour T3 which can be obtained online. I'm still learning but I think the GPs don't really have the specialist knowledge that this forum holds.

Good luck

supremebeing - ask your doctor for a print-out of all the tests that were done, with ranges. If your levo isn't helping then it is very possible you are deficient in one or more of the following: iron, folate, ferritin, Vit D, Vit b12. Make sure they are all tested. Ignore your doctor's verdict on them - all need to be well in range, not just bottom of the range.

Look to see which thyroid tests were done and request any that weren't. These should be TSH, FT4, FT3 and antibodies.
