Asked my doc if I could try natural thyroid and she said she can't prescribe it on nhs or privately but that if I want to buy it privately she's happy to monitor me. Is this right? There seem to be a number of people here who are using armour that they get prescribed from their GP. Is my GP telling me fibs?

Afonog, your GP can prescribe Armour or other NDT on a named patient basis but isn't obliged to do so because NDT is not licensed for use in the UK.

Most of the people on this forum who are using NDT are self medicating and buying their NDT online, although a very few are prescribed it on the NHS.
My GP stopped my NHS prescription this year after prescribing it for five years.

You can see that a number of practices in England do prescribe desiccated thyroid. Not a large number. But enough to show that "can't" is not always the case.

Not true she can prescribe it on a 'named patient' basis.
