Depending on your age and your genetic background, facial hair may be just what happens. As we get older (menopause, perimenopause) the estrogen level goes down but testosterone stays the same. This can cause a bit of hair growth on the chin and fat redistribution. However arm hair is different. What about the leg hair, pubic hair, eyebrows? You have provided very little information.

Regardless, you need to get all of your hormones checked. Cortisol, testosterone, LH, FSH, estrogens, progesterone, maybe even growth hormone. Excess of cortisol will have other effects besides hair growth on the face.

It can also be a sign of polycystic ovaries.

Huge sympathies because I've been plagued with being quite hairy since puberty. Not a good thing for a woman- if it's any consolation I think it affects more of us than we realise, we're just so good at sorting it out and not really talking about it. After years and years of plucking with my trusty tweezers I invested in a Phillips lumia. They are very pricey but I got one on offer at boots last year and it really is amazing. It uses IPL pulsed light so is very safe, painless and quick and it REALLY works. I hardly have to pluck much at all now and don't really need to shave my legs very often. Would highly recommend (and no, I don't work for Phillips or Boots!)

A quick survey between my women friends years ago established that we all had this problem after being unable to eat much when going through a shock bereavement or divorce etc. It seems to really mess up your hormones, rather like anorexia does.

I find Nair Facial Brush-On effective and has the added benefit that it seems to discourage growth.
