Have been experincing alot of weakness/numbness in my arm and fingers. I notice this more often when i am washing my face or applying cream. My arm becomes very heavy and i dont seem to beable to feel my fingers very well. It also happens when i need to raise my arm to do something. I realise it may not be thyroid related but expereince of this site usually points me in the right direction. Even though we all share a common bond of thyroid troubles we also encounter other things along the way.
Any thoughts please
Thanks Christine

Sounds like it could be tennis elbow or Carpal Tunnel to me? There are several autoimmune conditions that can bring this problem on, or it can just affect a person all by itself - the most likely thing. Get it checked out I would say.
Thanks.....Yes i agree i think its something that affects the arm itself...i did susspect nerve damage as i have cervical radiopathy but my gp said the symptoms were not consistant with that. I have done the rounds of different referrals and collected a host of dignosis on the way..but not the right ones.
Hi Ni I do not think that. I am thinking muscular ie vit D possibly or more likely peripheral Neuropathy. Are you diabetic? It could be carpel Tunnel syndrome but does not qound quite like that.
Hi I should see how it is in a month or 2 then.It takes that long. Do not forget to watch the calcium does not go over with the D.
I am OK , thanks. Life is a struggle but I manage. Life revolves around consultants and medical procedure. Not my choice but I am still here! Which is certainly my choice!
Glad to see that your still on here..for all the right reasons. You have always offered your advice by looking at all the different angles and possibiites. I guess you have gone through most of these expereinces yourself and still manage to stay positive.
I have exactly the same thing in my left arm. When I mentioned it during a recent 111 emergency hospital admission, no real notice was taken of it once they'd ruled outa heart attack.
What annoys me is that we get sent to different specialists have loads and loads of tests or we are completly ignored and symtoms get worse. Often the obvious is right there before them and they dont see it. Im always waiting for the lightbulb moment in the hope that a medic i see will recognise symptoms and act upon them, saving all this coming and going.
I am also suffering this symptom I have an overactive thyroid and recently broke my wrist, it is still not healed after7 weeks my orthopaedic consultant has referred me to a hand specialist as the problem is in both hands not just the one I broke. my appointment is in October so I will let you know what he says, Have you been tested for Carpal tunnel Syndrome as your symptoms sound similar treatment is relatively simple and if an operation is needed this is usually done with a local or a nerve block and is day surgery hope this is of some use. Lesley
Years ago a very arrogannt doctor tested me for carpol tunner syndrome by putting an elastic band on my wrist..she said i didnt have it.
Iv just recieved my neuro appoinment for November....im no longer thinking some horrible disease but maybe nerve damage due to cervical radiopothy...this time i need to find the cause.
Keep in touch and hope you get some relief from your wrist problems.
Lot's of hypo patients report having difficulty raising their arms to brush their hair, etc, with burning muscles and pain; and this symptom went away when they were optimal on thyroid meds.
I Also have burning high back/ neck pain and loss of feeling in my right arm and hand ( it feels quite weird like the sensation in the face when I've had pre-dental injections}. I also have considerable weakness in that limb. I had a TT for papillary carcinoma in 2011 and am fairly settled on 175/200mg alternate days Levo. Apart from my THS not being fully suppressed {0.87} things are fairly settled.
I saw a neurologist about my arm and had an MRI which indicated moderate spinal chord compression at C5/C6/C7 and am currently awaiting surgery to remove 2 vertebrae. This is, I think, more the exception than the rule for these symptoms, but is non-the-less another possibility to be considered.
Good luck for a speedy diagnosis and relief of symptoms.
Thanks....iv got narrowing on C5,C6 which i have thought could be causing my symptoms. That was a couple of years ago and things have got worse. I will mention this at my neuro appt in Nov.
