I have today received TiROMEL from Turkey 25mcg tablets and will be starting them tomorrow. My question is, do I take these as well as or instead of Levothyroxine, or does it depend on toleration?
Quick question: I have today received TiROMEL... - Thyroid UK
Quick question
Before you start T3 with the T4 I am wondering if you have had the tests done for your B12 - Ferritin - folate - Iron - VitD. Having these at optimal levels will help you to feel well. Your thread of 10 days ago gave you lots of advice....and it could be something simple like T4 not converting due to the low levels of the iron/B12 etc. It is a common problem. You really do need to know what your FT4 and FT3 results are before you dive in with taking T3. Sorry do not mean to be negative - just being cautious. It will be good to post them here with ranges. If you have already and I have missed them then I apologise....
Someone else will give you the info about reducing the T4 when you add in T3. Please do read up as much as possible about preparing the body for further medication. I do not want you to be disappointed. It's a bit like painting wood - if you don't prepare it correctly the results can be upsetting
I am T3 only myself but learnt lots first from others who know far more than me
Thanks so much Marz. Your advice has been priceless. I haven't had all the checks done as yet. I am due to go back to the doctors on 30th, when I am going to insist on a full blood test. Doctor said to come back after being on orlistat for a month to lose weight. He thinks it is my age and weight making me tired. I am 45. I am currently trying ( with the help of the lovely members on here) to find a reputable Endo. Even if I have to go private.
I am also exercising lots and eating a low fat diet, I am still always exhausted.

You can see my reply on this thread and I now realise I have repeated myself in the PM - now who needs help with a bad memory !!
How much Levothyroxine are you taking, Jacqui?
Orlistat will deplete your fat soluable vitamins eg D so you may need to take more. Can also make you mess your underwear - be warned
I am currently taking 100mg Levo per day. Angel, I was really worried about the side effects of orlistat but none yet- touch wood. Although, I think that is because I eat a low fat diet anyway. Also, I take a multivitamin every day, do you think I need to take extra Vit D?
You mention eating a low fat diet, but it's important to have enough of the right fats in our diet. This is a short but useful article explaining why:

In particular, if orlistat depletes vit D, an insufficiency of the right fats will also cause Vit problems:
""Fats play a vital role in the human body ............ vitamins A, D, E and K are all fat-soluble, which means they need to dissolve in fat before being carried through your bloodstream to perform their functions. Fats also help maintain your body temperature and provide important padding and insulation for your organs."
