Fed up
Ask your doctor for a print-out of your latest results, with ranges. See which tests have been done, and then go back and ask for any that have been omitted. Here's a list:
Thyroid antibodies, TSH, FT4, FT3 (insist on this one), Vit B12, Vit D, iron, folate, ferritin
When you have all the results, post them here. The clues will be there.
Thank you got an appointment with go on Monday evening so will ask for print out I feel such a fraud with my symptoms so I need answers x
Oscar, you're not a fraud. 'Normal' is a very broad range and if you're TSH is high in range you will feel hypothyroid.
After RAI hyperactive patients usually become hypothyroid. It doesn't usually take 9 years though RAI usually destroys the thyroid gland but it can regrow so your GP ought to order an ultrasound scan to check out your goiter.
Ask your GP to test ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate as hypothyroid patients are often deficient/low and these deficiencies can cause musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and low mood similar to hypothyroid symptoms. Post your results with the lab ref ranges and members will advise whether supplementation is required.
Hi there just thought I would bring you up to speed went to gp monday thinking I would have to fight to see a consultant for thyroid but no need he was fully supportive and regardless of that one blood test he has decided to start me on thyroxin immediately so I don't feel I am going mad hopefully I should now be on the road to normallity thank you for listening xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Oh I forgot to ask anyone with a goitre do you feel like you have got something stuck in your throat ?
