Hi, I have a underactive thyroid but I'm suffering from hot sweats an I'm 43. Are these down to my thyroid
Hot sweats: Hi, I have a underactive thyroid but... - Thyroid UK
Hot sweats
I would say yes. I have Hashimoto's and while i was undermedicated by the Nasty Health Service (and even for a while after i took control myself) I had terrible night sweats.
When i switched to ndt the sweats went away
PS. The nhs will tell you that you are menopausal!
i have the same problem ..it makes it very difficult to do much as i feel faint when i get so hot....my doc thinks its my thyroid and we have been adjusting my meds but not had any luck yet x
Are you on any medication? When I get hot sweats, this is a sign that I am going overactive. I have a few weeks of hot sweats then my heart starts racing. I have hashimos, and I am finding that I have to reduce the meds for a few days, and I take the sweats as a warning sign.
Can also be the peri-menopause if you are female.
Thank you for the reply. I'm taking 75mg Levo. I'm exhausted and I've just has the summer off work. I've had my bloods done on Monday so awaiting results but I'm baffled with these hot sweats. Doctors doesn't think it's menopause.
Mickdondan,
If you post your recent thyroid blood results with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after your results) and say what medication you are taking members will advise whether you are on an optimal dose.
Ask your GP to test ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate as hypothyroid patients are often deficient/low and these deficiencies can cause musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and low mood similar to hypothyroid symptoms. Post your results with the lab ref ranges and members will advise whether supplementation is required.
I occasionally have hot flashes/night sweats and I'm undiagnosed hypo, so no meds. My FSH count was 5, so no where near menopause. Hypothyroidism can mess with your other hormones Eg estrogen and progesterone, so maybe it's worth having those levels tested.
