wrinkly fingertips

I have had under-active thyroid for 10 years now. Just noticed recently my fingertips are wrinkled as are the palms without being in water. I have recently started a diet that requires lots of water and salt supplements so not dehydrated? Any clues?

Welcome to the forum, Alison74.

Wrinkly fingers and palms seem to be one of the many hypothyroid symptoms. I was very hypothyroid last year and fingers and palms of both hands looked water logged and were an orangey colour. Colour is normal in both hands now and right hand is normal but the left is still wrinkly although less so than previously.

If you want to post your recent thyroid bloods results with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after your results) and say what meds you are taking, members will advise whether you are otpimally medicated.

Clutter, this is interesting because, when we have our hands in water for a long time and the skin gets raisiny, it's because the skin picks up water but the underlying tissue does not. So the skin 'gets bigger'. If someone's not doing this and ends up with wrinklies, then there's some serious dehydration going on. Seems the kidneys don't work great when someone is hypo. Which makes sense given the kidneys are the major T4 storehouse in the body. They really need good nutrition and good thyroid levels to function optimally.

Diet matters too. Potassium should be 2:1 with sodium. A lot of people eat too much salt and not enough food that contains lots of potassium. There's an imbalance.

Take a look at what happened to the Potato Commissioner of Washington State when he went on an all potato diet for 60 days. He stopped snoring right away and started snoring as soon as he went back on his usual diet. Potassium. Electrolyte balance and no water retention. 20potatoesaday.com/

I have wrinkly finger ends (except thumb), but palms are ok.

I read on another forum that it is a symptom of adrenal fatigue
