night shifts: thyroid UK report on the benefits... - Thyroid UK
night shifts
Sesbo, take Levothyroxine whenever suits you best, either on waking or before you go to sleep. If you find it keeps you awake take it upon waking. The important thing is to take it an hour before or two hours after food and drink, 2 hours away from other medicines and supplements and 4 hours away from calcium and iron.
Clutter.....just whinging here..............is vodka a medicine? If I have a couple or three drinks in the evening, does that reduce absorption of T3 meds? (I was hoping it facilitated it......:):))
Is alcohol bad for the thyroid? (Not drinking like Mayor Ford, okay, just normal sipping in the evening.)
Gabkad, Alcohol can suppress thyroid function but may confer protection against nodules, goiters and thyCa (big fail there for me ). On the other hand a little of what you fancy does you good.
Thank you...am still getting g days of extreme tiredness...back to night shift tonight, blood test this morning to check T3, cortisol and Thyroid function, will see consultant next week, want to ask him about NDT.
You can take it at the same time every day, as long as you leave two hours either side of levo for proper absorption and uptake and supplements 4 hours apart from levo. You could take it just before you leave for night shift and at the same time when not.
Thank you very much.
Yeah, I take mine at night. My GP thought it didn't matter when you took it.
