Hello
Just wondering whether its best to use Holy basil or PS to lower night time cortisol ?
Thanks
I used both - I used Holy Basil in the form of Pukka Three Tulsi Tea (Tulsi is another name for Holy Basil). What form would you be taking it in? I don't know whether the quantity of tulsi in a mug of tea has any pharmaceutical value. I have discovered I like the tea a lot, so I still drink it.
When you refer to PS do you mean phosphatidyl serine or phosphorylated serine? I used the latter which is sold with the trade name "Seriphos". It is allegedly cheaper than the first one I named, and is also allegedly more effective.
Having used Seriphos for dealing with high cortisol I found it quite successful. It helped a lot with my lifelong insomnia and I have no regrets about taking it.
Do a search for Seriphos on the forum. It has been mentioned quite frequently.
I have low cortisol and was wondering about holy basil. are there any benefits?
Holy Basil is used to balance the adrenals, so can be helpful for low and high adrenal function, but if your adrenals are stressed and cortisol low, then there are better combination products out there like the Nutri Ltd products for adrenal support i.e. Nutri Adrenal Extra etc nutri-online1.co.uk/Default... . Apex Energetics also have combination supplements to support cortisol production. Hope that helps. Jen
Hi Humanbean I am also taking Seriphos due to chronic insomnia along with other meds at night and still problematic I take 2 caps 1 hr before bed and so far no real change noted . How long was it before you saw or felt a difference ? I have tried holy basil tincture, Adrenasmart and a few other remedies with no relief. I do suffer from anxiety and I take 4 mg clonazepam along with the seriphos and a puff puff sometimes. Thx
Hi,
I took Seriphos for about a month, and at most I took three capsules per day, and didn't notice any particular difference in my sleeping habits while I was taking them. But I noticed I found it easier to fall asleep than I had ever done, as soon as I stopped taking the Seriphos.
Most people feel fine on Seriphos. I felt like I had the flu, and I hated taking them. But I have no regrets about doing it.

Vitamin C is also supposed to be helpful in reducing high cortisol levels.
Hi, I have had really (really!) high cortisol throughout the day for a good while, and I didnt sleep a night through for 2 years - I've managed to find a few things that really help:
1. Rhodiola, Panax Ginseng and Holy Basil - I take 1 tab of each 3 times a day (alternatively, you can get a supplement like Apex Energetics Adaptocine which does the lot for you in 1 tab x 3 a day)
2. Apex Energetics Adrenacalm - this stuff is miraculous. Apply 1 squirt in the morning and 1 an hr before bed behind the knees or insides of elbows
3. Tulsi tea (Organic India), camomille, ginger and marshmallow teas
4. Maintaining stable blood glucose levels - mine are all over the place due to hypothyroidism and adrenal dysfunction, so I eat a Paleo diet and have a tiny bit of safe carb (like sweet potato or squash) an hr before bed to help prevent blood sugar dips in the night, which can set off high cortisol production. I also supplement with Support Glucose or Blood Sugar with Gymnema to help stabilise blood glucose
5. Yoga (Kundalini specifically) and other stress relief like meditation and stomach breathing
6. Absolutely no stimulants, which will just keep stressing the adrenals - so no caffeine, chocolate, smoking, alcohol etc
I used Seriphos for a while and found it very useful but the effects wore off a bit after a few months of use,and I find I don't need it now that I use Adrenacalm topically.
Hope that helps!
Jen
Yes it does help thank you. Interesting about the blood glucose levels, I expect mine are all ovr the place too. Hard to have no coffee but better than being awake all night. Does the high cortisol never revert to normal ?

Once the source of the problem is resolved i.e. too much stress, not able to cope with stress, high blood sugar/ fluctuating blood sugar, thyroid problems, inflammation etc, then the adrenals should even out and cortisol go back to a normal level. Its important to find the route cause, make the changes to 'treat' it/ them and support the adrenals to get them back to normal. When you think they are evening out, do another saliva test and see what the levels are. I've had undiagnosed hypothyroidism for years so thats why all the treatment I've undertaken for my adrenal dysfunction has taken so long to kick in, but now that I am on Erfa and doing all the above, things are evening out. Get a home test kit to test your blood sugar levels and if they are fluctuating make changes to your diet, how and when you eat and maybe take some blood sugar regulating supplements. If you are having really bad problems though, a good practitioner should be able to draw up a plan to make sure all bases are covered.
