TSH 62.3

Hi have recently been diagnosed as having a variation of hashimotos, I never no how I'm going to feel each day, I however feel very hyperactive my free t4 is in normal range.and tsh 62.3 Anyone else have this and is there a time scale till my thyroid burns out

Cheryl, how much medication are you taking and how long have you been taking it? Hashimoto's causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine usually controls it and slows the progression of the disease but it will eventually destroy your thyroid gland.

Gluten-free diet may be beneficial in reducing high antibodies and reducing the frequency of Hashi flares.

Clutter whats a hashi flare? Does your gland get sore during one? My thyroid has been very sore for the past 5 days

Sally, yes periodically Hashi will flare up and attack your thyroid. The gland may swell and become painful during at this time.

Ok. As my tpo levels are still very low, if my thyroid is getting sore, would this be from the antibodies, or soemthing else? Sorry for the loads of question but this is all new to me so trying to figure out what could be triggering these symptoms. The doctors dont tell us much about this stuff, what to expect etc

Sally, antibodies rise in response to the Hashi lymphocytes attacking your thyroid. Antibodies fluctuate ie higher after an attack and then subside until the next time.

Levothyroxine helps reduce frequency and duration of attacks as does a gluten-free diet for many Hashi sufferers.

Thanks Clutter, so how does one know if a painful thyroid is due to the attack? How long does the attack normally go on for, if it's possible to have an average on such a thing? When I wake up my throat feels ok but as the day goes on it gets more and more painful, very peculiar.

My problems started last year with a 2 week painful throat, thats when my thyroid first started being problematic. Went hyper then hypo, now still hypo but come down from TSH of 18 to 5.6. Not on any meds but thinking I need some

Sally, as you have antibodies it seems likely that Hashi's is causing the throat pain.

Most GPs/endos will diagnose subclinical hypothyroidism when TSH is >5.0 especially when thyroid antibodies are present.

Hi just started 50 a day, was on 25/50 alternate days for 8 weeks as tsh was untraceable and ft4 high, was on 75 for 12 month at first

Cheryl, do you have copies of your blood test results? If not, you should ask for one. It is very important to know the actual figures, not just your doctor's interpretation of them, which can be erronious. It's your legal right to have them.

Don't worry about your TSH. It doesn't matter if it's suppressed. In fact, it's best for you to have it suppressed because it will stop/reduce the Hashi's flares, or swings, or whatever you like to call them, and preserve what's left of your gland.

I'm sorry, your what is 62.3? If that's your TSH, then no way are you hyper!

But what do you mean by 'hyper'? You know a lot of hyper symptoms are also hypo symptoms. There's a lot of cross-over.

Ask for a print-out of your results - with ranges - it's your legal right to have them.
