On the one hand ... and then again ...!

I saw my GP today. He said Good news, you DO have antibodies! Yeah, I knew that. I asked if I had Hashimoto's and he said No, you don't. Hmmm. But he has prescribed me some D3. At only half the dose inside the packet for an adult. Although twice as much as the automatic dose. I don't know whether I'm coming or going!

Mistydog, doctors don't seem to care for the term Hashimoto's but if you have elevated thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOab) you have autoimmune thyroid disease, Hashimoto's to the rest of us. Dunno why they're like this as they have no problem calling thyroid receptor antibody (TRab) thyroid disease Graves :o

What is your vitD result and how much vitD3 has he prescribed?

They didn't test me for Vit D as the lab only does Calcium and Phosphate and if in range assume Vit D is OK! But he has a different take on things and agreed it might be helpful.

Did you mean D3 or did you mean T3 (Liothyronine)? Just checking in case!

D3! Chances of getting T3, about the same as a sack of unicorn poo!

Hi Mistydog,

Did he also test your TSH, T3 and T4 if not how come he is testing thyroid antibodies only?

Sorry Riverfrog, thought I'd replied on my phone but it doesn't always work :(

TSH and T4 were already tested (TSH 0.02 (range 0.02-4.00) and T4 22 (13-22) from memory. I asked him how they know how much is converted and he shrugged at that. He does a lot of that apparently!

Funny though, he keeps saying "We don't know a lot about this" or that ...

They prefer to ignore the fact that you have TPO antibodies because they don't know what to do with you. I was told I only needed to go from 75/100mcg levo alternate days to 100mcg levo every day! The fact that as well as very raised antibodies, feeling c*** and my throat was swollen was of no interest. The endo gave his opinion by email.

Since my TPO diagnosis I have gone onto gluten and lacto free diet and things are better but still room for improvement.

Yeah mine didn't offer any options. I did say "So what are we going to do with those results?" And he shrugged. I'm still running through options here, trying to see what helps (giving each thing time to make an effect). I think taking the B12 (and possibly the D3) is helping me convert so much more than I can actually reduce the levo.
