lhad a great response to Natural D/Thyroid, (Pig ) but could not continue because of the side effects. I have been taking Bovine, ( Cow thyroid ) for over a month now and at first feel great, but after five day's feel the same again. I have been increasing my dose every week by half a tablet, I am now on 1.5 and again feel flat and need to up the dose. Can anybody help as my GP isn't really that interested. Thank you all for listening. I am in Australia.

Does your NDT have a registered 'name'. Some people may be sensitive to fillers/binders in some products.
Maybe you've been increasing your dose too quickly as you've been increasing weekly. Normally, you would begin a dose and take it for around 6 weeks, then increase. Some members may have a different viewpoint. 1.5 grain is equal in effect to around 150mcg levothyroxine but I have read that some need higher doses.
key fact: "Sometimes we can be sensitive to fillers/binders." and there are a lot of binders including talc used in some NDT's. be careful and know what you are taking!!!
I tried NDT which Is derived from a pig, but Bovine is another form taken from a cow to which i seem to be having no side effects. Bovine is the whole thyroid which comes in tablet form and its a combination t3 t4. I'm just not sure how to use it. I purchase this from America by post.
But which NDT? There is Armour,Erfa, Thiroyd, thyroid S, Naturethroid (which is hypoallergenic,) one by acella np thyroid?... And there are other brands too. All are pig derived. It matters which one you take... Two of them don't suit me because of the fillers. Is the bovine one sold as a food suppliment rather than a prescription med?
Hi galathea, thank you for helping me. Yes, the Bovine I am taking is a food suppliment. I dont know anything about it ?? only that it is available without a script. I tried two different forms of pig derived but both made me sick,so was told that I must be allergic to pig?? I find this hard to accept as I have eaten pork before without a problem. I am getting desperate for help as I can't find a GP who Is interested enough and I am getting sicker. Thank you for replying I really appreciate It.
My wife has been using the bovine NDT and it barely keeps her numbers above the lowest levels so we are trying the porcine. this is something we just started because the bovine NDT is getting too expensive and 60% is digested as bovine (beef) protein. the Porcine is most like that of hume thyroid and provides aditionaly necessary amino acids and hormones that help regulate other areas of the body.it is personal choice as to which you want but I hope you can afford it, blood levels still need to be monitered.
There is also another called Thyro-gold and was invented by Dr Lowe and has had good reports it is. It is also a non-prescriptive (deliberately) NDT. Dr Lowe was an Adviser to Thyroiduk.org.uk and unfortunately died of an accident and his wife is now dealing with orders/questions. He also ran Thyroidscience, Fibromyalgia Research Foundation, Drlowe.com these are now archived sites.
Hi Duncan, yes i had the same problem with Bovine . I was taking five a day but it barely made any difference to my levels. I am now on NDT, and am taking it straight from the capsule, ( pouring it into my mouth by breaking open the capsule ) this way i don't have to try and ingest the Cello that the capsule is made from as this was one of my probs. I was fortunate to find a "Compound Pharmacy " whom make it up according to your needs, and DRs request. So far i am fine, no side effects with the Gut . Yes, it all gets so expensive . I am in Australia so things are a little different here.
