Adrenal Thyroid Profile result, can anyone offer advice please.

Hi

I posted three weeks ago and did get a couple of replies but I am still really confused.

I have been seeing a nutritionist and she arranged the Adrenal Thyroid Profile which included a saliva adrenal test and a 24 hour urine test to see if I am converting my T4 levothyroxine to T3.

The result was urine volume 3300 range 600 - 2500

T3 2394 range 592 - 1850

The nutritionist said this proves I am converting. I said well it looks like I am over medicated by that result and she said speak to your G.P. about it.

Spoke to G.P. who didn't have a clue.

My serum results are

T3 is 4.4 range 3.8 - 6.0

T4 is 14 range 7.80 - 21.00

TSH is 0.10 range 0.35 - 4.7

I am currently taking 100/125 mcg. levo alternatively.

Does anyone know if the urine result means I am over medicated?

I really don't think I am as I still have hypo symptoms.

I am not losing weight, temp. is still below normal. The only symptom of hyper is loose stools for one or two days a month the rest of the time I am constipated.

OR does the urine test mean the T3 is been passed out in my urine and not getting to my cells.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Many thanks browny

I have no idea on urine tests but believe t4 should be near the top end of the range to feel well. Does not apply to me tho as mine 24 and i often struggle to walk the length of myself (adrenal problems too). Hope you get some answers on here, lots of very knowledgeable people.

Your nutritionist should be interpreting your urine test results. She ordered the test, so why is she leaving you to find out what it means? That is why one has to name a practitioner when ordering this through Genova. I suggest you call her and explain you cannot get help from your GP and ask her to find out for you herself. You are certainly not over medicated from your thyroid blood test results. Sorry, cannot be more helpful as I know nothing about urine tests but I cannot see how your result proves you are converting. On the other hand looking again at your thyroid tests, I think your T3 would be below ref range and T4 would be much higher if you were not converting, so on balance I would say you are and just need a higher dose. Hope that makes sense. Good luck with the nutritionist and finding out the answer to your urine result.

Many thanks for your reply, yes it does make sense.

I agree the nutritionist should have explained the urine test better than she did. I will call her tomorrow and if she cannot explain further and I am going to ask her to ring Genova to find out.

I think I do need an increase of levo. but I am trying to increase my supplements to see if this helps before increasing.

My palpitations have come back the past couple of days, I have not had them for a while so maybe this is telling me I need an increase.

Best wishes browny

I was taking 125mcg levo but still had hypo symptoms. I had a 24hr urine test done - the result was 753pmol/24hr and the range was 800-2500. I followed this up with the D102 gene test available via Thyroid UK. This revealed that I inherited defective genes from both parents and clinched it for me that T3 conversion was a problem.

Hi

Many thanks for your reply, my result is at the opposite end to yours, I presume I am converting but I don't understand why it is above range.
