Can I just ask is there a link with underactive thyroid and diabetes was just wondering should I be tested as it's in my mothers side she has 3 brothers and 2 sisters with type 2 just wondering would that be a reason why I'm so tired as well as having the thyroid kicking up at the moment

mauds, are you already diagnosed for either? You should read up before heading to the doctor. From reading TUK for many months, treatment is rather abominable for thyroid in the UK.

Have underactive for 10 years due to having cancer when I was in my 20 s had a lot of x rays ct scans nuclear scan for over two years and a year of chemo was told I would develop thyroid trouble .I'm now 51 and thyroids taken a battering from the bloody endo in our local hospital. He put me on t3 t4 combo and it was the worst experience ever. Never even did tests to see if I was having issues converting I was in bits for 4 weeks taking it my doc took me off it and I'm back on 100 eltroxin for past two weeks. Most if the symptoms had on the combo have gone but I'm so tired but after what I've been through I suppose it will take a while to come round. I'm in Ireland and only endos can give t3 just wish I had known all the tests I should have had before I got to see him but I only joined this site when the damage was done. But have learned so much. A friend of mine has underactive thyroid for the same amount of time and developed diabetes she didn't even know she had it was feeling so tired but her thyroid bloods were in range then was tested and told she had type 2 diabetese it's in my family so I suppose I better get tested.

Sorry to hear such a rough time when you were younger. I suppose the weight gain from being hypothyroid might cause the pancreas to put out insufficient insulin.

Glucose and thyroid are definitely linked as this short video explains:

yes there can be..

and for some it can mess with cholesterol too

My daughter has type1 diabetes, and also has Hypothyroidism like myself. Diabetics do have a higher prevalence of

Thyroid disorders compared to most of the population.Take your concerns to your GP and ask for a blood test and

take it from there.

Wish you well
