What would be the best solution for thyroid depression T3 T4 combination or NDT.

I haven't tried NDT but T3 has been very beneficial for my non-thyroidal bipolar depression, so much so I stopped taking 200mcg Sertraline in November.

There is also research which shows that 60mcg T3 plus Sertraline can be very beneficial for anti-depressant resistant depression.

Thankyou for your reply. I have had a total thyroidectomy due to graves .during the past few years I have struggled .after having my thyroid removed I then went in to menopause . I was told by GP I was suffering depression firstly I was prescribed citalopram then sertraline and finally what I can only describe as the worst drug of all venlafaxine at this stage I was told I had a mild form of bipola and traits of personality disorder . I was mortified by this diagnosis as no one had taken any notice of my graves history . Through this sight I have gained knowledge and great strength . I have now got a new GP and she is so understanding and is doing everything that I have asked for regarding sending off my requested bloods and refusing me to an endo.

I was taken off Venlafaxine as I developed a slight heart abnormality prolonged QT interval. I was so ill at the time I didn't notice any withdrawal effects but I understand they can be difficult and it's best to taper off slowly and gradually.

If it was a GP who diagnosed bipolar/borderline personality disorder it iis almost certainly a misdiagnosis as psychiatric evaluation, way outside of the GP's remit, is required for any such diagnosis. If it was a true diagnosis there's no need to be mortified but it's outrageous when physical illness isn't properly treated because of a psychiatric label.

Specialists sometimes seem incapable of thinking outside of their own area of speciality but as T3 in combination or instead of Levothyroxine could be of real benefit to you it is worth mentioning that depression didn't set in until after your thyroidectomy. There has been research suggesting Levothyroxine monotherapy is not satisfactory for thyroidless people and advocates T3 in addition.

I hope your endocrinologist &/or GP will trial you on T3 but if they won't/don't you can access it easily online and self medicate although medical supervision is preferable.
