Hi all, anyone know if spatone iron sachets is ... - Thyroid UK
Hi all, anyone know if spatone iron sachets is good to raise low ferritin.
It wouldn't be my first choice. Each sachet only contains 5mg elemental iron.
I'm currently taking ferrous fumarate 210mg pills, three times per day. Each pill contains 69mg of elemental iron.
Lots of people don't tolerate ordinary iron tablets - ferrous sulphate, ferrous fumarate or ferrous gluconate - but if you can tolerate them it increases the likelihood of you increasing your ferritin/iron levels within a reasonable time. I would only go for things like spatone or other iron pill substitutes if I couldn't tolerate standard iron pills.
Although it only contains a small amount of iron, it is much more easily absorbed than most iron tablets. It worked really well for me at 3 sachets a day when my ferritin was very low and then two sachets a day and then just one. It's very good if you can't tolerate iron tablets but also quite expensive.
I agree that if you are OK with the better quality iron tablets, they will probably raise your ferritin quicker. If you can't, spatone is pretty good.

They didn't help me at all, in fact I assumed I wouldn't be anaemic whilst I was taking them but actually had a dangerously low iron count (of 4). There are various other better options. I take ferrous sulphate, but some people find that harsh on the digestion, apparently solgar gentle iron is quite good too.
Yes, Solgar gentle iron is good. Several people on here rate it highly. Unfortunately I can only take that for a few days before getting sick again. I don't tolerate iron tablets, no matter how gentle
I think spatone works for some but not others. You do normally need more than one sachet a day though. It is mainly an option for those who can't take iron tablets, like me. A rather expensive option when you need 3 sachets a day! Probably not the first choice for most people.
Licorice is also good for supporting the adrenals
Licorice should be avoided by people with high blood pressure.

I think that Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (DGL) is considered to be safe though :
