My thyroid levels where 0.3 can anyone shed any light on this??
Hi Do you mean the TSH? Have you been diagnosed. For an accurate diagnosis you need T4 and Free T3 tested to. Ask receptionist always for results with ranges, differ. It TSH is low and others Ok, it can be the Pituitary gland, unusual. Test is a 24 hour urine collection for testing,GP or Endo.
Jackie.
I am sorry, we cannot shed any light as you haven't said whether it is the TSH, T4 or T3 and we also need the ranges of the tests too.
I am assuming you have been diagnosed as hypothyroid? What medication are you taking and what dose.
If you are on medication - how are you feeling? Unfortunately, blood tests should only be used as guidelines by the GP (they don't know this mind you) the important thing is has the patients' clinical symptoms improved.
Hiya yes they say I've got an under active thyroid he didn't realy telle much I just asked what my levels where he said normal was 29 and mine 0.3
Hi We do not normally find replies, unless you have clicked on "Reply to this" under the reply post.
Doctors often have different than us., so essential to have the proper results yourself.,with ranges. Your blood so entitled to.
Have you had a Pituitary test, vital, just in case with low tSH. Whatever treatment you have will lower the TSH, some more than others. However, we in that case, must make sure the T4 and FT3 are Ok. Normally T4 should be in top third of range and FT3 fairly near the top.
If you feel ill and nothing working, I would ask for a referral to an Endocrinologist but pick one yourself first and ask their sec about treatment policy, ie with low TSH.Do make sure you have the 24 hour urine test, so important with low tSH.
At least your GP seems quite open, praise indeed!
Best wishes,
Jackie
Hi Sophia17
I am still none the wiser.
Always get a copy/print-out of your blood tests from the surgery and make sure the ranges are also there (the figures are in brackets) for your own records. We are entitled to a copy. They cannot refuse. Why we ask for the ranges is that laboratories have different ranges for thyroid gland blood tests.
If you have a print-out you can post them on the forum if you have a query. It does help members to comment on them and so try to help you get better.
I am sorry not answered your question satisfactorily.
Hmm, that's a puzzle. I can't think of any thyroid function tests that would be normal at 29!
Anyway, did your doctor say what the next steps would be? Did he give you any medication? How do you feel?
Hiya I've been on them 3 months that was the first test that told me I had this just waiting on another blood test xx
Sophia, we were all the same when first diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Most didn't have a clue what effect it would have on us nor the symptoms we still had or may develop.
It's good you are taking an interest in your health and it is a big learning curve. You will soon know much more as we have to read and learn in order to get back, more or less, to normal health.
When first diagnosed it is usual to have a blood test around every six weeks with an increase in levo until you feel so much better.
When you take your levo in the morning, you have to take it with one glass of water and wait for around 1 hour before breakfast. Some foods can interfere with the uptake of the hormone. When you have your next blood test, if GP hasn't already checked, ask for a Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate to be checked too. We are usually deficient in these and may have to supplement ourselves.
When your next blood test is due, do not take levo until afterwards and make the appointment as early as possible. If you've had to have breakfast before your appointment, wait for 2 hours before taking your medication and 2 hours afterwards before eating again.
