Does anyone have any idea why we itch. Or have this prickly skin thing??

You could try taking an anti-histamine tablet about 1 hour before your levo, to see if you are allergic to something in it. If so, you will have to try an alternative make or the GP will have to prescribe an alternative.

I do not take Levo, I have been itching for years and years now. I take BENEDRYL but it is not working today. I only started on NDT two weeks ago. Itching has been a constant in my life, nausea too.

That must be awful, constant itching. It must be so unbearable at times. Has your doctor not referred you to a dermatologist? Also nausea too - do you connect that to particular foods or is it constant.

He said I had an allergy and the treatment would be the same no matter what. I do not think I have an allergy. I think it is all thyroid related.

I was very itchy on MercuryPharma 25mcg. levo. but now on Wockhardt and, touch wood, I am OK. I reported this via the Yellow Card scheme. Do hope you get sorted out soon - this is very miserable.

Try and lower histamine levels in blood further using low histamine foods and vitamin supplement. Quite complicated so check good websites.

Is yours kind of razed bumps ingrown hair like? Mine is so bad since last summer and has got worse around calfs upper arms and boobs face too but never thought it could be levothyroxine but started after taking it? So it the thyroid or the medication causing this?

No I have no bumps or raised skin. No tell tale sign at all. Also my eyes get really gritty. I was not on medication and the itching has been going on for years.

Could you be undertreated? I had it for years - itchy legs mainly but sometimes feet or trunk, always at bedtime - but on more meds it went away.

Mine starts at about four or five. By six I just wanna go to bed and shut out the world. Wasn't so bad last two days. Hope the porcine will help. Just have to give it time I guess. I think it is thyroid related, or why would so many on the site have the Exact same thing. But it helps when others can advise or at least understand. Make it alittle bearable. X

The only advice I can offer is that I used to take a natural bristle hairbrush to bed to scratch so I didn't tear my skin with my nails.

Wow wish I read this last night, scratching myself silly. First time it was in the middle of the night. I take antihistamines all the time, but am trying not to take so many building up a resistance to them maybe. I am on half a grain of NDT. Just been about three weeks. X

Do you find that the antihistamines help? Allergies and autoimmune diseases are all part of the same phenomenon, so we are all likely to be sensitive that way.

Is it possible you are undermedicated? If so, hang in there. I've said this before but when I was on enough meds the itching just went away.

As you say, the antihistamines will begin to lose their effectiveness after a while.

I am hoping that when I raise my dose maybe that will help. Past hope, past cure! That won't be for a couple of weeks. It is hard not to just take a bit more NDT, but I wanna do it the right way so I know what is what. Maybe I never will ha ha!! I am feeling very good today, even cleaned the windows! I have noticed now that I am on NDT that I have to wash my hair more, think that would be my metabolism working again? Hoping

My friend suddenly began to itch all over & was then diagnosed coeliac (at least 30 years ago?) - just a thought in case it helps J

Ritaritarita well, dry skin is a hypo symptom so maybe that means it is reversing your symptoms. I'm so glad to hear you have a bit more energy. It sounds like you're going in the right direction. x

I know about the eyebrow loss - a really common visible symptom. My doc said the leg hair loss was sex hormone related. I haven't seen any evidence that it is related to thyroid issues but I keep reading it can be caused by adrenal problems.
