I have been hypo for about 17 yrs. I take 100m... - Thyroid UK
I have been hypo for about 17 yrs. I take 100mcg of levo , but I am also type 2 diabetic .I have never been told my levels.is this normal?
Unless u actively manage your health, the nhs will just leave you as you are and do nothing. Push for a test and get a copy of the results.
Thank you. I must admit I was a little ignorant of all this. I just took the gp's word that everything was ok. But as I have never heard of T3 etc before , how do I find out what is considered normal etc.
If you well, no problem, but if you don't you need all the information you can get.
Thank you. The trouble is because I have other medical conditions, I can't be sure what is making me feel so lethargic. Need to investigate.
I think you should start off with new blood tests for the thyroid gland. Ask for a full thyroid function test but lab will probably not do them if TSH is 'within range'.
If you haven't had Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate tested ask GP for these too as we are usually deficient and can cause problems in themselves.
Ask your surgery for a copy of the blood tests, with the ranges, and post them for comments.
Do not take your levo on the morning of your test and have test as early as possible. We should aim for a TSH of 1 or below unless we feel better with higher number. GP's are apt to think if we are anywhere in the normal range any other clinical symptoms are not due to a thyroid gland dysfunction. They're so wrong.
Thank you, that's very helpful. I already take Vit B12 tablets and Vit D is included in my meds for my osteoporosis.
