Most accurate thermometer please?

I have been using a digital from Boots and have been recording BBT at anything between 34.8 to 36.1 but will need accuracy to present to unbelieving GP. I heard that I need a proper mercury thermometer but they seem to be obsolete. What does everyone else use?

My pharmacist told me the Vicks thermometer is the most accurate. Think it cost £20ish.

Ty fixit - sounds like a good investment. Will google for one

It does rather sound as if the pharmacist has some Vicks thermometers on his shelves!

There are at least six different Vicks models.

There are many available including, for example, those sold by Lidl from time to time.

Dr P said that as mercury thermometers are hard to get hold of, digital ones are fine. If your basal temp is fluctuating all over the place this may indicate that you have adrenal issues. Are you taking your readings under your tongue? xx

Have tried under tongue and now switched to underarm. Will see if its more stable. If its always below 37 I guess it explains why the weight wont shift :(

:-( hang in there! I think putting a digital under your arm won't give an accurate reading as you need to give them more time under your arm so you might get some very low readings :-)

It does say you need longer for an underarm reading - will invest in a better one for mouth I think - thankyou

Mercury thermometers may no longer legally be sold.

(It always seemed somewhat ironic that people here were both seeking out mercury thermometers proclaiming them wonderful and at the same time blaming mercury for many things, possibly including some thyroid disorders.)

The wiki article on human body temperature is quite interesting:

My personal experience is that an ear thermometer gave very consistent results. (Make sure you know whether it needs coves in use, or not. They can be annoyingly difficult and expensive to obtain.)

I bought mine from here, they do a more expensive one than this one, but this particular model has been consistent, great service and customer service too.

Braun ThermoScan Ear Thermometer, reasonably priced in Costco. Same as my GP and local Hospital uses so must be decent...
