Received an email from "38 degrees" yesterday with this very worrying message.
Jeremy Hunt is trying to sneak through a law which will give him the power to quickly close any local hospital without listening to local people. No hospital is safe.
He’s changing the rules after losing twice in court trying to close Lewisham Hospital against the wishes of local people, doctors and nurses. The sweeping new law - the 'hospital closure clause' of the Care Bill - will give the government the power to shut down any hospital, in as little as 40 days, regardless of how well the hospital is performing. [1]
Jeremy Hunt is hell-bent on pushing this through. And time’s not on our side. It could be as little as one week before MPs vote this sinister threat into a reality.
If we’re going to have a chance of stopping Jeremy Hunt we need to throw the kitchen sink at this. And we need to move fast.

What is this man playing at and why would he want such a bill passed. Also why haven't we heard about it until now (or maybe you have but I have been asleep.lol).

And a very sore loser as he didn't like being beaten by the Lewisham Hosp protesters. It annoys me that we have heard nothing about this on any of the television news channels - why haven't we - makes me think they have got something to hide and are sneaking this in through the back door.
I can see a lot of little country hospitals closing down because of this law and, if he manages to sneak this through without opposition, we wont be able to do a thing about it.
I signed 38 degree petition the other day. It is vile that these politicians can so quickly and quietly, rush through these laws without the general public even being aware of what is going on until it is too late. When they will just announce, your hospital is closing, they won't even have to give a reason. 'Care Bill' ? maybe they could be done under the trades descriptions act? because they Do Not Care Jeremy Hunt has lost in Court, Twice. Why is he trying yet again? They will have their own reasons though, for doing the dirty on Joe Blogs, it will all come out in the wash, eventually, Money !!! Unfortunately, it will probably be too late by then.
Sorry for the rant, but I am starting to get frightened about my endo appointment this week and just feeling really ill at the minute. Brain fog, and hardly able to string two sentences together without falling over my enlarged tongue! x
Glad you feel so passionate about it, and please do rant away.
Why frightened - he/she is only a human being the same as you or me. Yes a bit more powerful maybe, in as much as he/she can help or hinder your treatment if you allow it, but nothing to be frightened over. I think these people can sense fear, the same as a dog can, and it possibly alters the outcome of the appt. Go in there brimming with confidence and you'll be fine.
I would have loved to have met your dad - he put nicely into words what I have always said (except I never put it so politely.lol). It works as well and this has always been my philosophy, so remember they are no different to you so what is there to be afraid of - give it a go and think of your dad just before the appt, it will calm your nerves.
I saw it today and have just signed it as I had done for the Lewisham petitions. My Nan lived there and had it closed and she needed an ambulance she would have had a long enough journey across London that could of meant life or death. Sadly my Nan passed away 2 weeks ago in Lewisham hospital who managed to save her life whilst there but sadly the next day she had a fatal heart attack, but they did everything they could.
People like Hunt seem to think they are above needing medical care, these hospitals are for real people living in the real world who have paid £1000's into the NHS all their working lives. Get rid of the bloody management high up and get back to basics again of caring for people and not ticking boxes!
Couldn't agree more - the reason the likes of Hunt don't mind shutting down these hosp's is because he will never have to use them due to his private health care package - probably paid for by the tax payer on his yearly expenses claim.
All these public school politicians out...Bring in real people, but it will never ever happen in our lifetime if at all. I truly despair for the future :-(((((
Yes, I signed it too. The government is forever trying to sneask through bills that they know will be unpopular, just like they've been trying to push through the bill to allow them to privatise the NHS. It's a good thing we have the likes of 38 Degrees, AVAAZ and Change.org. They sell do such brilliant work. We can't let the government keep getting away with stuff behind closed doors.
Sorry to hear of your computer troubles - I did that to the one in work, boss was not impressed, and it couldn't be fixed so had to be thrown away and a new one bought.Ooooops.
Sent you pm earlier, now I read this. So sorry to hear it pettals. The same happened to me a few months ago, but a clever young chap managed to get most of it back. Janet.
Saw this a few days ago and signed Moggie. My worry is that they may sell of our new hospital which has supposedly not been used much. However my GP referred me there 20 months ago (am still waiting), so I am pretty sure that it is being used, especially as there are letters about how good it is in the local. We can't let them get away with it! Janet.
